Joshua Van, also known as “The Fearless,” has one of the fastest-rising career graphs in the flyweight division of the UFC. He was born in Myanmar and is now fighting out of Houston, Texas. With a professional record that shows his ability to finish fights, Van is a name to watch in the UFC.

Van was born on Oct. 10, 2001, in Hakha, Myanmar, and currently trains in Houston with the 4oz. Fight Club. Being just 23 years old, he is one of the youngest fighters in the UFC who is also ranked.
Van competes in the flyweight division (125 pounds). Standing at 5’5″ (168 cm), his height is close to the average for his weight class. He has a good reach of 65 inches (165 cm), which helps him maintain a good striking range. Van prefers to fight in an orthodox stance.

“The Fearless” made his pro MMA debut in 2021. Before the UFC, he fought in Fury FC and became a flyweight champion there. He made his UFC debut in June 2023 against Zhalgas Zhumagulov, in a bout that he won. He has a 4-0 amateur record and currently has a UFC record of 13 wins and two losses. Van holds the #14 rank in his division.

Van is a pretty well-rounded fighter with a background in striking and grappling. He has a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a strong wrestling base, but prefers his striking over the ground game. The UFC official stats and records show that the fighter lands 89% of his significant strikes in a standing position, 8% in a clinch, and only 3% while he gets down to the ground.
Out of his 13 wins so far, six have come by knockout and two through submission. However, the fighter has a better takedown accuracy (64%) than striking accuracy (55%). Even in terms of defense, Van has a better takedown defense (81%) in comparison to his significant strikes defense (60%).
Van lands 8.10 significant strikes per minute, and as per UFC official records, it is the highest in UFC history so far. He also has the highest striking differential (2.86) in the UFC’s flyweight division history. Van lands 1.11 takedowns per 15 minutes.
Because of early boxing training, he targets his opponent’s face the most and the legs the least. Van has two first-round finishes so far, and his average fight lasts around 13 minutes and 33 seconds, which is also a testament to the fighter’s stamina.
