Joe Rogan Shares the Biggest Price UFC Fighters Pay for Their Fame and Glory

UFC commentator Joe Rogan is one of the most prominent figures in MMA today and also has one of the biggest podcasts in the world.

Rogan recently had American actor, stand-up comedian and writer Tom Segura on “The Joe Rogan Experience” and the two had a conversation that lasted over 150 minutes.

Joe Rogan Speaks About Brain Damage Among UFC Fighters

At one point during his conversation with Segura, Rogan started speaking about brain damage and how it can affect a person’a ability to interact with the world.

“Brain damage is the worst because now the way you interface with reality might be damaged,” said Rogan. “Like the way you interface with the universe itself [changes completely].”

Rogan then opined on how UFC fighters, who aim to become a champion and attain fame and success, might be risking brain damage and how they operate in the universe.

“So, you’re taking a gamble,” continued Rogan. “The highest amount of glory possible is like winning fights in front of the whole world. I mean I would only imagine that like becoming a UFC champion and they put that belt on your waist and the whole crowd’s like, ‘Yeah!’… The love that person gets, the accomplishment that person gets. But the price is you’re risking the way you interface with reality itself. The brain, you’re risking the brain.”

Joe Rogan Speaks About the Judging Issues in MMA

It is not an uncommon occurrence when MMA fans are not pleased with the outcome of the fight and accuse the ringside judges of not being competent in their job. While speaking about gambling in different sports, Rogan shared how it is affected by bad judging in fights.

In the same episode of his podcast, Rogan wondered whether a bad decision from an MMA judge should be chalked up to incompetence in scoring fights or should one take a closer look at potential betting influence. Rogan then shared an example of a woman who was behind several questionable scoring cards in fights.

“There’s a real problem with it in MMA, too,” he said. “Here’s the problem with MMA gambling – incompetent judging. Is it incompetent or is it dirty?… There was one lady in [Las] Vegas, and she got barred from ever refereeing or judging fights again. There’s a few fights that she was involved with where everybody was like, ‘What the f**k?’ I don’t know if she’s ever been charged, I don’t want to mention her name, but I know that there was a real issue with world title fights.”

The acceptance of betting on sports in American society has drawn concern from many people. Rogan’s concerns are no doubt fair in areas beyond UFC.
