Joe Rogan has put forth a laudatory breakdown of fan-favorite MMA camp, the Fighting Nerds.
Incidentally, Rogan’s assessment of the team has come days before their welterweight fighter Carlos Prates’ much-awaited main event matchup against Ian Machado Garry at UFC Kansas City.
Joe Rogan Fanboys Over ‘Fighting Nerds’ MMA Team
On episode #2309 of “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast this month (April 2025), UFC color commentator Joe Rogan hosted fellow comedian Joey Diaz. He recounted the Fighting Nerds’ fighter Jean Silva’s domination of and eventual submission win over Bryce Mitchell at UFC 314 on April 12.
For context, multiple fighters from the Fighting Nerds camp in Sao Paulo, Brazil, have lately made waves in different weight classes in the UFC.
Praising their oft-discussed scientific training methods, Rogan stated, “That whole team, apparently, the Fighting Nerds, I was talking to [UFC play-by-play commentator] Jon Anik about this.”
“He said they have data scientists who work for the team. Data scientists, who analyze techniques and break things down, identify what’s effective and patterns. They find patterns — patterns of opponents, what the person does, when they do it, how they do it… That’s a team of f**king savages.”
He suggested that Caio Borralho, of the Fighting Nerds, had established himself as one of the top UFC middleweights. He added that some feel he’s the best in the division, something he could prove by dethroning UFC Middleweight Champion Dricus du Plessis.

Rogan also talked about the Fighting Nerds’ Mauricio Ruffy’s recent knockout win over King Green (aka Bobby Green), emphasizing that Ruffy is a tall, long, and dangerous UFC lightweight.
Rogan lavished praise on Carlos Prates as well, who is set to fight Ian Machado Garry at UFC Kansas City this week. The UFC welterweight is a seasoned kickboxing and Muay Thai veteran,
“You got Carlos Prates, who’s a f**king killer. Stone cold Muay Thai killer, who’s really hard to take down,” Rogan said. “And he has a 100% finishing rate in the UFC, I believe. He just knocked out Neil Magny. He f**ks everybody up. He’s a sniper. Like, super-skillful, slick Muay Thai guy.”
“So their whole team is just killer, killer, killer, killer — it’s all killers; just a team of brilliant, up-and-coming killers. These guys are learning that it’s not just about training hard. It’s not just about sacrifice. It’s about thinking hard, too. It’s about learning. It’s about really going over your game.”
UFC Kansas City takes place on April 26, 2025. The winner will move closer to a potential title shot and possibly fight the victorious party of the Belal Muhammad vs. Jack Della Maddalena title bout that will take place at UFC 315.
