Jake Paul Claps Back at Ryan Garcia for His Comment
Jake Paul’s boxing career has been a debated topic within the boxing community, as many analysts have questioned the legitimacy of his skills due to his choice of opponents, with those often being MMA fighters or long-retired boxing legends.
Ryan Garcia is among those who have questioned Paul’s legitimacy as a boxer. Speaking to USA Today ahead of his comeback fight against Rolly Romero, “King Ryan” labeled Paul a wild card and cast doubt on his credibility in the sport.
“He’s a wild card. I mean, I don’t know if he’s a boxer. At the end of the day, he’s never fought in a ranked match at his weight class,” Garcia said. “I don’t even know what his weight class is. I don’t know if it’s heavyweight. I don’t know. It’s cruiserweight. I don’t know what his weight class is, so can’t really say that he’s legitimate.”
Garcia, however, suffered a unanimous decision loss to Rolly Romero in their fight for the vacant WBA Welterweight title in Times Square, New York, on May 2.
Paul reacted to Garcia’s defeat through an Instagram story, clapping back at him. He shared a photo from the fight showing “King Ryan” being knocked down by Romero, captioning it: “Irony always wins.”

“The Problem Child” and Garcia have been trading verbal shots at each other on social media, with both questioning each other’s legitimacy in the sport. This post from Paul only adds fuel to their ongoing social media feud.
Meanwhile, Paul is scheduled to face former WBC Middleweight Champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 28 in Anaheim.
Ryan Garcia Questions Credibility of Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Fight
In the above-mentioned interview, Garcia was asked about his thoughts on Paul’s upcoming bout against Chavez Jr. The former WBC interim champion questioned the legitimacy of the matchup, pointing out the Mexican fighter’s loss to former UFC star Anderson Silva.
However, Garcia acknowledged that the fight has generated buzz in the boxing community and believes it will be financially beneficial for both Paul and Chavez Jr.
“He’s [Chavez Jr.] already lost to Anderson Silva. …So it’s like, I can’t really consider this something. But it’s going to be a big fight regardless. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is a good name and Jake Paul got all the eyes on him. So they’re going to make a lot of money. I think that’s key to [Paul’s] career.”
Paul is currently riding a five-fight winning streak, while Chavez Jr. is on a two-fight win streak. This matchup is shaping up to be an exciting one for fans, many of whom are already considering the Mexican boxer to be the toughest challenge yet for “The Problem Child.”
