Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou was reportedly involved in a recent road accident in Cameroon that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, she reportedly succumbed to her injuries.
Ngannou finally addressed the matter in a statement, in which he expressed his support for the family of the individual who passed away in the reported accident.
Francis Ngannou Addresses His Alleged Involvement in Fatal Road Accident
The combat sports community was recently rife with reports of Francis Ngannou’s alleged involvement in a road accident in Yaounde, the capital city of his native country, Cameroon. The incident allegedly took place during Easter weekend in April 2025.
Speaking to TMZ Sports earlier this week, Ngannou issued a statement on the alleged incident. The report claims Ngannou said his “heart is shattered” by the “devastating loss of life.”
Affirming his support for the girl’s family, Ngannou further stated, “From the very beginning, I have been by the family’s side, offering support, comfort, and deepest condolences during this time.”
“I’ve met with them privately to share in their grief, and I will continue to stand with them every step of the way,” he added. “I carry their pain with me, and my unwavering thoughts and support remain with them as they face this heartbreaking loss.”
According to reports, Ngannou was riding a motor vehicle, believed to be a motorcycle, when he crashed into a pedestrian. Ngannou then reportedly took the latter, a 17-year-old female, to a local hospital.
Ngannou allegedly provided financial support for the individual’s medical treatment and procedures.
The girl reportedly underwent emergency surgery at the hospital. Unfortunately, she passed away due to the injuries she’d sustained in the accident. ESPN reports suggest that Cameroonian authorities are currently investigating the case.
Francis Ngannou’s Recent Combat Sports Form
Francis Ngannou departed the UFC in early 2023 and has since competed in a pair of high-profile professional boxing matches, losing to Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. In his latest boxing match, Joshua knocked him out in March 2024.
His last combat sports outing was in MMA.
The Cameroonian-French fighter made his promotional debut in PFL in Oct. 2024. The win made Ngannou the inaugural PFL Super Fights Heavyweight Champion.
Several fight fans and experts want “The Predator” to return to the UFC and take on current UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones in their long-awaited dream matchup.
However, Ngannou has consistently stated that he’d like to be contractually free to compete in boxing. His contract with the PFL allows him to do so, but the UFC reportedly denied him that opportunity. He also holds the position of Chairman of PFL Africa.
Ngannou was linked to a possible boxing match against former WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder a while back. Furthermore, former professional Strongman Eddie Hall recently expressed interest in fighting “The Predator” in an MMA bout, provided he is well-rewarded for the risk of fighting the fearsome heavyweight.
