Dustin Poirier is arguably one of the most admired fighters in the UFC today. “The Diamond” has been a part of several exciting fights in his career where he has shown his grit and determination in order to win a fight.
The 36-year-old was last seen in action in June 2024 when he squared off against UFC Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, which was held at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Poirier’s teammate and fellow lightweight Mateusz Gamrot had helped him train for that clash, but “The Diamond” ended up losing the fight via submission in the fifth round.
Dustin Poirier’s Sparring Partner Mateusz Gamrot Shares Fight News
Poirier’s teammate Gamrot is currently ranked seventh in the UFC lightweight rankings. He has participated in 10 UFC fights and has had his hand raised in seven of them.
During his tenure in the UFC, “Gamer” has shared the Octagon with several other prominent fighters like Arman Tsarukyan, Dan Hooker, Rafael Fiziev, Rafael dos Anjos, Jalin Turner, and Beneil Dariush.
Shedding light on his UFC future, Gamrot recently uploaded a post on social media that featured a picture of himself.
“Eye of the tiger. Contract signed,” wrote Gamrot in the caption.
Many MMA fans took notice of “Gamer”s post and shared their thoughts on it in the comments section.
One individual took a dig at the 34-year-old’s UFC record and said, “Another controversial Split DEC coming.”
The fan’s comment was in reference to Gamrot’s three UFC fights that ended in a split decision, to which he ended up on the losing side in two of those encounters.
One fan predicted Gamrot’s opponent to be Michael Chandler, saying, “I have a feeling they might give me Chandler so Chandler can rebuild himself.”
Another fan opined that Gamrot needed to win the fight in order to stay relevant: “You have to win this, you lunatic. Then you’ll start to be talked about… no matter how, but it has to be a win.”
Someone else named Ludovit Klein and Nasrat Haqparast as his predictions for Gamrot’s opponent: “Could my and not only my predictions regarding Gamrot’s rival be correct? I predicted Klein but I also considered Haqparast but I have a feeling it will be Klein?”
Another fan shared a similar prediction, saying: “If it’s Klein then we can rest assured because winning is a formality!”
Giving fighting advice to Gamrot, one person said, “Gotta work on your striking bro.”
