UFC megastar Alex Pereira has gained massive popularity among MMA fans for what he has accomplished in a short period of time inside the Octagon. Recently, a user pointed out that Pereira and Ian Machado Garry both made their promotional debuts on the same card, an event where another major name in the MMA world, Kamaru Usman, secured what is now, shockingly, his last UFC victory.
Kamaru Usman’s Last UFC Win Coincided With the Debuts of Alex Pereira and Ian Machado Garry
Usman is gearing up for his comeback after being out of action for more than a year and a half. He is set to face rising contender Joaquin Buckley in June, headlining UFC on ESPN 69.
“The Nigerian Nightmare” last competed at UFC 294, where he stepped in on short notice to fight Khamzat Chimaev. Despite a hard-fought battle, Usman lost via majority decision, marking his third consecutive loss in the promotion.
Usman’s last win came back in 2021 when he faced Colby Covington at UFC 268, securing a unanimous decision victory to retain his welterweight title.
Recently, a fan pointed out a surprising coincidence — that Usman’s last victory occurred on the same card where both Pereira and Garry made their UFC debuts. It has since gone viral on social media.
On that night, Pereira defeated Andreas Michailidis with an impressive flying knee knockout. Meanwhile, on the UFC 268 card, Garry faced Jordan Williams and earned a first-round knockout victory.
Since then, Pereira has risen to superstardom in a remarkably short period. He captured the middleweight title by defeating Israel Adesanya, although he later lost it in their rematch. After that, Pereira moved up to the light heavyweight division.
There, he won the title by defeating Jiří Procházka at UFC 295 in just his second fight in the division. The Brazilian star has since defended his belt three times, each victory coming by knockout.
In his most recent fight, “Poatan” faced Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313. In a hard-fought, back-and-forth battle that went the distance, the judges scored the bout 46-49, 47-48, and 47-48 in favor of Ankalaev.
Since Pereira lost the light heavyweight title to Ankalaev, talks of a rematch have already begun, with both fighters verbally agreeing to run it back — the latter expressing interest in facing Pereira again in August.
Meanwhile, the UFC has remained silent on the matter, and no official announcement has been made. Still, a rematch between the two seems likely in the near future.
