Ryan Garcia, who was previously banned from boxing for a year, made a grand entrance in the Batmobile for his comeback fight against Rolly Romero.
However, the dramatic entrance didn’t age well, as Garcia ended up losing the bout to Romero. Former UFC star Derek Brunson didn’t miss the opportunity to mock “King Ryan” for his flashy entrance.
Derek Brunson Mocks Ryan Garcia After Rolly Romero Loss
Garcia squared off against Romero for the vacant WBA Welterweight title on May 2 in Times Square in New York. His grand entrance in the Batmobile impressed many fans and drew significant attention.
“King Ryan” was determined to silence critics and redeem himself after his no-contest ruling against Devin Haney. However, the night didn’t go as planned for the 26-year-old, as he lost to Romero by unanimous decision.
Following Garcia’s loss to Romero, Brunson took to X to mock him, writing, “Came in the Batmobile, left on the NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority.” Later, Brunson doubled down by sharing the post again, this time tagging Haney’s father, Bill Haney.
Garcia and Bill have been trading verbal jabs ever since “King Ryan’s” victory over Devin was overturned and ruled a no contest after the 26-year-old tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs, resulting in a one-year suspension from the sport.
Tensions escalated when Garcia and Bill got into an altercation during Garcia’s open workout ahead of his fight against Romero.
Meanwhile, Devin also competed on the same card, facing José Ramírez in a 12-round bout. The fight went the distance, and the judges scored it 119-109, 119-109, and 118-110, awarding “The Dream” a unanimous decision victory.
Garcia Reacts With Grace After Loss to Romero
Following his loss to Romero, Garcia praised his opponent during the post-fight interview and offered his congratulations.
“He fought a good fight, caught me early, no excuses, man,” Garcia said. “Congrats to him, and he did a great job. That’s it.”
Garcia was asked whether being away from the ring for a year affected his performance. The 26-year-old emphasized that the layoff took a toll on him both mentally and physically, but he said he was happy to go the full 12 rounds.
“I just think that whole year took a lot [out] of my body physically and mentally. I’m just happy that I made it into the ring and went 12 rounds. So, thank God for the opportunity. And hats off to Rolly. You did a great job.”
This loss has moved Garcia further away from a potential rematch with Haney, and it seems unlikely to happen anytime soon.
