A significant portion of the UFC community has been rallying for the Dricus Du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev fight since the final quarter of the previous year.
Given Chimaev’s ruthless fighting style and du Plessis’ awkward brilliance, it’s pretty apparent why the fans want to witness the fight as soon as possible.
Dricus Du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev in 2025?
Dricus Du Plessis recently shared an exciting update about his potential fight against Khamzat Chimaev. The South African revealed that both parties allegedly took another step towards materializing the much-awaited encounter.
‘Stillknocks’ also shared the window within which the encounter is set to take place.
In a recent appearance on “The Sias du Plessis Show,” du Plessis mentioned that both fighters have verbally agreed upon the fight. He added that he was offered two dates—both in 2025—and said yes to all.
“So we have a date, but we have, potentially, two dates,” du Plessis revealed. “I already agreed to both. A lot of people are saying, ‘Is it this year?’ Yes, 100 percent. It’s not far away. It’s not that far away. The announcement will be made soon.”
Du Plessis further added that he’s waiting for the contract for the fight to be sent and that it will definitely happen by the end of Sept. 2025.
“So I’m just waiting for the contract, but that’s the fight that’s happening. It’s going to be happening in the next couple of months, maximum four months”, said the South African. “It’s going to happen one of these days. Nothing is signed, but I’ve already agreed to any date. Any date that they gave me, I said, ‘Cool. Ready. Let’s do it.'”
Du Plessis’s coach has already revealed how his disciple plans to get the better of “Borz.” Fans will be hoping for the official announcement of the encounter, and they are pretty eager to find out whether or not Du Plessis’s pre-planned approach proves enough to hand Chimaev his first pro-MMA defeat.
Du Plessis expressed his interest in the Chimaev encounter in an interview with TMZ Sports days after the latter’s victory over Robert Whittaker at UFC 306. However, he wasn’t sure about its materialization or timeline since his next fight was booked for UFC 312 against Sean Strickland.
Du Plessis’s comprehensive victory against Strickland allowed him to shift his focus to Chimaev.
A few weeks back, a rumor said that the South African had been sidelined from competing for an unprecedented time due to an injury. However, du Plessis debunked the myth, disclosing that he was hale and healthy.
