Dillon Danis didn’t bother showing respect to Anthony Smith after Smith announced his retirement from the promotion at the recently concluded UFC Kansas City. Instead, Danis chose to mock Smith with a remark related to his moniker. However, his comment didn’t sit well with several fans, who decided to call him out in different ways.
Dillon Danis’ Remark About Anthony Smith Earned Him Multiple Reality Checks
Anthony Smith decided to call it a career after his UFC Kansas City fight against Mingyang Zhang. But it was far from a fairytale ending, as “Lionheart” endured another defeat on his way out of the promotion. Despite enjoying a few moments of success early in the fight, Zhang turned the tide quickly with his well-rounded striking.
An elbow from Zhang opened up a nasty cut on Smith’s head in the latter half of the first round, visibly reducing his ability to fight back. The 36-year-old’s attempt to take the fight to the ground backfired as he ended up on the bottom, taking damage from Zhang’s ground-and-pound. Referee Jason Herzog stepped in to stop the action a few seconds later, signaling a first-round TKO loss for Smith in his final UFC bout.
The declaration of Smith’s retirement came during his Octagon interview with Paul Felder. An emotional “Lionheart” thanked all his supporters, along with the UFC brass, before laying his gloves in the center of the Octagon.
Smith received a big pop from the Kansas City crowd on his way out of the T-Mobile Center. But the comments section of a recent Instagram update from ESPN’s MMA page showed that Danis didn’t have any respect for Smith’s contribution to the sport.
The post featured a photo of Smith during his post-fight interview with Felder with the words, “I did that s***.” It was captioned, “The final words from Anthony Smith after his amazing UFC career.”
Danis’ comment read, “LionFart.”
Several fans lashed out at Danis after seeing his mocking remark about Smith. One of them called him “Logan Paul’s son.”
Danis also received a few reality checks in the replies from fans to pair with the burns. One wrote, “Has a better career than you ever will.” Another added, “You aren’t even a fighter.”
One more user said, “He’s done more than you btw.”
Danis’ next fight is currently unknown after the cancellation of his boxing match against KSI, which was scheduled for March 29. Despite all this, his recent comments about Smith show that he remains fully committed to his keyboard warrior persona.
