After being out of action for over a year, Ryan Garcia returned to the boxing ring on May 2. He faced Rolando Romero in a 12-round clash for the vacant WBA welterweight championship. The bout headlined the card labeled “Fatal Fury,” held in Times Square, New York.
The night did not go well for “KingRy” as Romero outclassed him and lost the bout via unanimous decision. The three judges scored the contest 115-112, 118-109, and 115-112 in favor of “Rolly.”
Devin Haney Reacts to Ryan Garcia’s Loss Against Rolando Romero
It is common knowledge among boxing fans that there is no love lost between Garcia and Devin Haney. The latter competed on the undercard of the “Fatal Fury” card on May 2. Haney went toe-to-toe against Jose Ramirez in a 12-round scrap.
The fight lasted all 12 rounds and ended in a unanimous decision victory for the 26-year-old. The three judges scored the bout 119-109, 119-109, and 118-110 in favor of Haney.
But the night did not end for “The Dream” with his victory over Ramirez. He sat ringside for the main event and taunted Garcia after the latter came up short.
After the culmination of the main event, Haney was standing ringside when he started talking trash to Garcia’s corner.
“What happened? No Ostarine?” said Haney to Garcia’s team.

The night marked the first time Garcia and Haney competed inside the boxing ring since their infamous encounter last year.
Garcia and Haney faced off in a showdown on April 20, 2024. The fight, which was held at the Barclays Center in New York City, was for Haney’s WBC super lightweight title. In the lead-up to the clash, there was a lot of trash talk between the two boxers and their teams.
During the weigh-ins for the bout, “KingRy” came in overweight by 3.2 pounds, making him ineligible to win the title.
On fight night, Garcia proved himself to be the better boxer as he edged past Haney for most of the 12-round scrap. Garcia scored three knockdowns in the fight and eventually got his hand raised via a majority decision.
The three judges scored the bout 114-110, 115-109, and 112-112 in favor of Garcia.
But the thrill of the victory did not last long for Garcia as he tested positive for Ostarine, a performance-enhancing drug. This led to his win against Haney being changed to a no-contest.
Garcia was fined a whopping sum of $1.1 million in addition to a one-year suspension as punishment for failing the drug tests.
However, fans did not take Haney’s comments about Garcia’s loss to Romero too kindly. Between Garcia’s huge fan following and Haney’s team suing him for using PEDs in the fight, “The Dream” got called out on social media.
“I don’t think Devin Haney is really in a place to be chirping — his fight was ridiculously boring and uneventful, and nothing will change the fact that Ryan Garcia manhandled him so badly he had to retain a lawyer afterward,” a fan said.
“Dude is the biggest clown. To stand there and act arrogant after taking Ryan to court. What a loser,” read a second tweet.
Another said, “Why is this fraud laughing?”
“This is so embarrassing imagine getting demoralized so bad to the point you act like a jabroni and make it your entire personality to hate on the man. Bro, give it up — you got your sh*t caved in and since Rolly beat him he’ll definitely beat you worse,” a fourth chimed in.
Another fan predicted, “Haney’s gonna try his hardest to duck the rematch.”
He also got mocked for his performance: “Haney didn’t fight much better himself, lol.”
