Jon Jones doesn’t worry much about the consequences while voicing his thoughts about UFC affairs. Jones’ harsh remarks about Daniel Cormier during the buildup to their first fight at UFC 197 resulted in an all-out brawl at the pre-fight face-offs. “Bones” has made bold comments about several other issues throughout his career.
However, the reigning heavyweight champ recently censored the name of the most “overrated” UFC fighter in his opinion while talking about the topic. Jones hinted at his choice by revealing the initials of the fighter, which had fans playing the guessing game with the given clue.
Who Is the “CC” Jon Jones Picked As the Most Overrated Fighter?
Jones used his bold approach to reply to Tom Aspinall following one of his recent remarks about their eagerly awaited undisputed heavyweight title fight. During his appearance on Demetrious Johnson’s “Mighty” podcast, Aspinall mentioned that bagging the undisputed heavyweight title is his only goal, instead of fighting Jones specifically.
The Rochester native might have viewed Aspinall’s remarks as an indirect call to strip him of his undisputed heavyweight title due to his reluctance towards the title unification fight. He came up with a harsh reply for the reigning interim champ, stating, “Shut your mouth and do as you’re told.”
Despite being known for such bold comments, Jones censored the name of the most overrated UFC fighter in his eyes. A recent Instagram update from @themaclifeofficial also disclosed why Jones stopped at revealing just the initials of the fighter.
“I could say his name, but it’s really just because I don’t like him, and saying his name gives him clout, which I also don’t want to do. His initials are CC, and he’s a total douchebag.”

Fans started a guessing game in the comments section, with many of them mixing the names of Jones’ possible targets with a “C” in the initials.
One of the funny guesses read, “Chris Curtis? Cowboy Cerrone? Com Caspinoll?”
Another fan mentioned, “Why is he bringing up Carlos Condit for?”
A third one jokingly stated, “Chelsea Chandler.”
Interestingly, the name of the UFC welterweight Colby Covington came up more than any other fighter in the comments section of the post.
Why Does Jon Jones Consider Colby Covington Overrated?
Covington’s initials are an exact match for the hint Jones gave out for the most overrated UFC fighter in his book. However, “Bones’s” previous remarks about “Chaos” imply that the former interim welterweight champ also fits well in his second hint about disliking the fighter.
The bad blood between these two fighters runs deep, stemming from their college days as roommates. Jones voiced his dislike for Covington during his appearance at the pre-UFC 245 press conference. Besides calling “Chaos” a “liar,” “Bones” also labeled him a “bad person” from his experience of being his roommate.
“Colby’s a habitual liar at the end of the day, he really is. He told the fans that we lived together for two years. We lived together for one semester,” said Jones. “I’ve made a lot of mistakes, and a lot of people don’t consider me a good person, but coming from me, Colby’s a really bad person. He really is.”
The history between Jones and Covington dates back to their time at Iowa Central Community College, where both were wrestlers. Covington has previously made claims about Jones using performance-enhancing drugs during their college days and described incidents of “roid rage.” However, Jones has consistently disputed Covington’s version of events, particularly the timeline of how long they lived together.
Their relationship has only gotten worse over the years. Jones has pointed out that other fighters who have spent considerable time with Covington, such as Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal, have also developed negative opinions of him. This pattern seems to support Jones’ assessment of Covington’s character.
From a fighting perspective, Covington’s recent performances might support Jones’ “overrated” label. The former interim welterweight champion has struggled in recent years, losing to Kamaru Usman twice, Leon Edwards, and most recently to Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa in 2024. Despite his trash-talking persona generating attention and securing him title shots, his finishing ability and entertaining fight style have been questioned by many in the MMA community.
Jones’ comments provide fans with enough reasons to believe that the “CC” he labeled the most overrated UFC fighter is indeed Covington. The personal animosity between the two fighters, combined with Covington’s recent struggles inside the octagon, makes him the clear target of Jones’ criticism.
While Jones continues to deal with his own controversy regarding the delayed Tom Aspinall fight, his willingness to call out Covington without even saying his name shows just how deep their personal feud runs. The heavyweight champion’s assessment might sting even more, considering it comes from someone widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters in MMA history.
