Conor McGregor’s bet on UFC 314 didn’t go according to plan — and it cost him half a million dollars.
The Irish superstar watched as Michael Chandler, suffered a brutal third-round TKO loss to Paddy Pimblett at UFC 314 in Miami. McGregor, who had reportedly placed a $500,000 wager on Chandler to win by knockout, took the loss in stride but didn’t hide his frustration.
Conor McGregor Reacts to Michael Chandler’s TKO Loss Against Paddy Pimblett
Paddy Pimblett started fast and never looked back. He outworked Chandler in every area, using crisp striking and slick grappling to frustrate the veteran. After two dominant rounds, a flying knee in the third, cracked Chandler open, and Pimblett followed up with relentless ground-and-pound to force the stoppage.
Now riding a seven-fight UFC win streak, “The Baddy” is gaining steam as a legitimate contender in the lightweight division.
Following the fight, McGregor voiced his thoughts in a now-viral post on social media:
“Chandler, you motherf**ker you! Rest up, fair play. My history with Mike and the odds on him by KO swayed me to take the risk. My head did say Paddy. He’s improving but with a way to go yet. Although the division is woeful, it is equal, and equal brings good fights. So happy days, ya’s’r welcome. Ah well, what’s $500,000 to an M G like me, can you please remind me? More than your purse.”

Former UFC fighter calls for a McGregor vs. Pimblett fight
Paddy Pimblett’s win didn’t just shake up the rankings — it reignited chatter around a potential super fight.
Former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub believes now is the time to capitalize on Pimblett’s momentum. While Pimblett has publicly called out names from the lightweight division, Schaub suggests that there’s only one fight that truly makes sense: Paddy Pimblett vs. Conor McGregor.
Schaub said:
“All Paddy needs is one more. They’re not going to go Paddy-[Ilia] Topuria right now, it doesn’t make sense, but what makes all the sense and will get more views than Islam-Topuria, Jon Jones-Tom Aspinall, is Conor McGregor-Paddy Pimblett. Paddy beats Conor, then Paddy becomes the biggest star in the UFC. That’s the perfect world for the UFC.”

With Pimblett’s popularity increasing and McGregor being a PPV drawing machine, this matchup could be a promotional dream. Whether it actually happens remains to be seen.
