Cody Garbrandt has proven his in-octagon skills with multiple stellar performances over the course of his UFC career. However, his fights also give him a chance to exhibit the impressive inkwork on his body. Garbrandt, known to be a tattoo enthusiast, will step into his upcoming fight with a new piece of inkwork on his face. No Love recently spoke about what made him get a tattoo on his face.
Cody Garbrandt Originally Planned To Have His Latest Tattoo on Another Part of His Body
UFC fans who have watched Garbrandt’s fights may have noticed that most of his upper body, including the front and back of his neck, is covered with tattoos. Garbrandt had a clean back till his UFC 235 encounter against Pedro Munhoz. However, in his next fight against Raphael Assunção at UFC 250, fans saw a massive tattoo covering his entire back.
There’s also very little space left for any newer tattoos on the front of his torso. Starting from a large diamond tattoo on his neck, Garbrandt’s chest is entirely covered with a fascinating tattoo, which begins with the words, “Lord Have Mercy”. It then transitions into complex imagery, showcasing a dove and a baby.
Another extensive inkwork sits just a few inches below Garbrandt’s chest tattoo, which covers most of his belly. Garbrandt recently decided to get the inkwork of a little inverted sword on one of his armpits, but the pain it caused, forced No Love to negotiate with the artist and get it resketched over his right eyebrow.
The new tattoo stops at Garbrandt’s eyebrows and reappears below the eyelid, making it seem like a little sword had gone through his eye. No Love’s unique spot for his new tattoo subjected him to a question during his appearance at UFC Atlanta media day.
“I just love artwork (and) tattoos,” the fighter said. “Actually, I was getting my armpit done, and uh, it was hurting a little bit. So, I was trying to trying to like cop out to my tattoo artist. I was like, ‘Let’s put [this] one on the face.’ So I went to the face and did it. I was like a sissy on the armpit, so we put the face tattoo on and just went with it full send, f*** it.”
Garbrandt’s back tattoo may have provided him with a touch of luck. He won his first fight with the tattoo at UFC 250, breaking a three-fight losing streak. No Love suffered a second-round submission defeat in his most recent battle in the Octagon, against Deiveson Figueiredo, at UFC 300. It will be interesting to see if his face tattoo comes in as a lucky charm to give him a win on Saturday.
