Bitter Rival Daniel Cormier Shares Three-Word Answer After Being Questioned About Signing ‘Strip Jon Jones Off of Title’ Petition

Jon Jones currently holds the heavyweight title in the UFC. Since his win over Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, fans have been eager to see a showdown between “Bones” and interim champion Tom Aspinall.

UFC CEO Dana White has expressed interest in making that fight happen, but so far, no official announcement has been made.

Daniel Cormier Speaks About Jon Jones Petition

The delay in making the fight official, combined with Jones’ antics on social media, has sparked growing frustration among MMA fans. This frustration has led to a public petition on change.org, asking White to strip Jones of the heavyweight title.

The petition claims that Jones’ inactivity as a heavyweight champion and refusal to fight Aspinall justifies his removal from the belt.

“Jon Jones is now the longest reigning champion in UFC heavyweight history and has only fought two times in that period,” the petition reads. “There is a clear interim champion, Tom Aspinall, who has defended his interim championship belt. Aspinall is ready to fight Jones. Jones refuses to fight him. Therefore, we as fans must let Dana White know: It is time to strip Jon Jones of the heavyweight title. He clearly has no intentions of fighting anytime soon.”

The petition has gone viral, gaining over 110,000 signatures on social media. Former multi-division champion and longtime Jones rival Daniel Cormier was recently asked about the petition during a conversation with Ben Askren.

When asked if he had signed the petition, Cormier simply replied, “No, I didn’t.”

Cormier and Jones had one of the UFC’s most intense rivalries. During their time in the light heavyweight division, the two fighters were known for exchanging insults in interviews and on social media.

They first met in January 2015 at UFC 182 for the UFC light heavyweight title. Jones outclassed Cormier for most of the fight, earning a unanimous decision victory. All three judges scored the bout 49-46 for Jones.

Their rematch came in July 2017 at UFC 214. Jones initially won the fight with a third-round knockout, but he was later stripped of the title after failing a drug test.

For now, fans are left waiting to see if the UFC will officially announce Jones vs. Aspinall. Dana White has said he wants to make it happen, but with Jones’ social media behavior and Aspinall’s growing popularity, the pressure is mounting for the UFC to deliver.

As the petition continues to gain traction, it’s clear that fans are tired of waiting. But for Jon Jones, who has always had a complicated relationship with the UFC and its fans, the next chapter remains unwritten.
