Alex Pereira was last seen in action in March 2025 when he went up against Magomed Ankalaev for the light heavyweight title at UFC 313. The event was held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The night did not go well for “Poatan” as he was outclassed by his opponent and lost the fight via unanimous decision. The three judges scored the bout 49-46, 48-47, and 48-47 in favor of Magomedov.
Don Frye Shares a Piece of Advice for Alex Pereira
MMA legend Don Frye has shared career advice for Pereira, a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. In a recent appearance on Submission Radio, Frye discussed various topics, including his opponents and MMA career achievements.
At one point during the interview, the MMA legend was asked whether he had any words of wisdom to share with Pereira. Frye responded by advising the Brazilian to take time off in case of an injury, instead of pushing through it.
He then asked Pereira to prioritize himself, claiming that the promoters did not necessarily have the fighters’ best interests in mind in MMA.
“Well, if you’re hurt, take the time off and heal up, you know,” said Frye. “I never did. I always popped the pills and kept going, you know, fighting through it. And that ended up making my career take a s**t, my career. Comes to find out, the promoter don’t give a damn. They don’t give a damn about you. I haven’t got one Christmas card or birthday card from any promoter ever. You know what I mean? And I made them all lots and lots of f**king money. I almost like died in the hospital a couple of times and nobody ever called me up and said, ‘How you doing? Hope you’re better.'”
Despite being in the UFC for just over four years, Pereira has achieved some remarkable feats. After building a 3-1 professional record, “Poatan” made his debut in the multi-billion dollar promotion in November 2021.
Pereira started his UFC career with a four-fight win streak, which included a title fight victory over Israel Adesanya at UFC 281. He lost the title to “The Last Stylebender” in a rematch at UFC 287.
Pereira then moved up to light heavyweight and won five fights in a row before losing the title to Ankalaev. During his run at 205 pounds, Pereira defeated several prominent names like Jiri Prochazka, Jamahal Hill, Jiri Prochazka and Khalil Rountree Jr.
Frye’s advice certainly makes sense and is interesting when considering his perspective. As someone who has been in Pereira’s shoes and has reflected on past mistakes and experiences, Frye’s words shouldn’t be dismissed.
