At 31 years old, Tyreek Hill enters his fourth season with the Miami Dolphins. After beginning his NFL career in Kansas City, Hill has had quite the journey to get to where he is today. On a Dolphins team with Tua Tagovailoa at the helm, Hill knows that he needs to step up and be a leader, but questions whether he deserves to be a captain.

Tyreek Hill Knows He Needs to Prove Himself
In a noteworthy offseason that has now shown Stefon Diggs being on the hot seat, Hill’s situation is a bit different. The veteran wide receiver is still recovering from a wrist injury that is preventing him from catching in OTAs. Upon returning to full health, Hill knows he needs to give it his all if he has any chance of regaining the captain patch.

“It’s tough. Only thing I’m going to say is money is a crazy thing for a lot of people,” Hill said. “For me, we’re just going to let the details handle themselves, because at the end of the day, the truth always comes out. My job is to be a great father to all of my kids and be the best player I can be and the best leader I can be to these guys in the locker room. I’m going to stand strong on that and stand firm on that.”
Hill is coming off a 2024 season with just 81 receptions, the first time he didn’t have 100+ since 2020. While he had a team-high 123 targets, the Dolphins didn’t have Tagovailoa at full health for the entire duration of the season. That certainly impacted Hill’s numbers as he had to play with Tyler Huntley, Skylar Thompson, and Tim Boyle.
Heading into the upcoming season, Hill knows what’s at stake: “I gotta prove myself. This OTA and training camp I have to prove myself and show up different. The mindset gotta be different. I don’t feel like I deserve it, and if I didn’t get it, I won’t sweat it. I put myself in that position.”
The only other player to record north of 100 targets last season was 29-year-old tight end Jonnu Smith. Hill finished the season with 75 more receiving yards than Smith, even though Smith led the team with his 88 receptions. De’Von Achane will remain a crucial pass-catching running back as he had 78 receptions on 87 targets last season for 592 yards.
