We are quickly approaching the fantasy football playoffs, yet six teams on bye and injuries to the wide receiver position are once again frustrating fantasy football managers by creating potentially chaotic scenarios for starting lineups heading into must-win situations.
Let’s take a look at the latest injury updates for Tyreek Hill, Marquise Brown, and Noah Brown and how they impact decision-making this week.
Latest News and Injury Updates Impacting Fantasy
Tyreek Hill, Miami Dolphins
The WR1 overall in all of fantasy football may be in jeopardy of missing his first game of the 2023 NFL season. According to a recent report from Adam Beasley, Hill was not spotted at Wednesday’s practice.
Fantasy managers will definitely need to monitor Hill’s participation in practice throughout the week, but unless he suffered a significant setback or the injury to his hand got significantly worse at some point during the Jets game, then Hill should be a decent bet to take the field in Week 13.
Hill was a limited participant in practice for every practice session last week heading into their game against New York, which did not slow him down — considering his stat line of nine receptions for 102 yards and a score.
It also didn’t appear to slow Hill down in the game against the Las Vegas Raiders back in Week 11 — the game he picked up the hand injury — when he went for 146 yards and a score on 10 receptions. It certainly appears Hill is capable of battling through this injury, given his recent excellence while dealing with an ailing hand.
The Washington Commanders’ secondary is giving up 264 passing yards and 35.5 fantasy points to opposing wide receivers on a per-game basis this season. If Hill takes the field against Washington, he’s an absolute must-start in your fantasy football lineup.
Marquise Brown, Arizona Cardinals
The return of starting Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray to the lineup hasn’t shot Hollywood Brown’s numbers through the roof like many fantasy managers were hoping for. However, his six receptions for 88 yards on 12 targets were certainly a big step in the right direction.
Unfortunately, Brown appears to have picked up an injury during his productive day against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. According to a recent report from Josh Weinfuss, Brown was not spotted at Wednesday’s practice, although Arizona has not yet released a formal injury report from the day’s practice session.
Brown’s season-high 12 targets could be a sign of things to come if the Cardinals’ defense continues to struggle. His 88 yards were his second-highest yardage output of the 2023 campaign.
The Pittsburgh Steelers defense has given up 236 passing yards through the air per game this season, which could give Brown an opportunity to find the end zone for the first time since Week 8.
Should he be unable to play against the Steelers, Rondale Moore and Greg Dortch could see an expanded role in the passing game while rookie WR Michael Wilson is currently dealing with a shoulder injury.
Noah Brown, Houston Texans
Editor’s note: Brown was limited in practice for the Texans on Thursday.
The Texans’ passing game is hoping to get a big boost with the potential return of WR Noah Brown in Week 13. According to a recent report from Aaron Wilson, Brown was back on the practice field in some capacity after missing the last two games with a knee injury.
In addition to him returning to the practice field, another report from Wilson noted that talented rookie WR Tank Dell was absent from practice due to a calf injury. Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans did mention he expects Dell “to be okay,” but he’s certainly worth monitoring heading into the team’s matchup against the Denver Broncos in Week 13.
Dell has scored five touchdowns and caught a minimum of five passes over the last four games, meaning Brown could see plenty of work in the passing game if Dell misses his second game of the season.
Brown produced receiving-yard totals of 172 and 153 yards in consecutive games before being sidelined with the knee injury. If he’s able to return to the field, he’ll enter the WR3 conversation for Week 13, seeing that Dell is currently banged up and could be at less than 100% if he manages to play against Denver.
