Taylor Swift Reveals Surprising Reason Behind Not Telling Ed Sheeran About Her Engagement With Travis Kelce

When Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce got engaged to pop superstar Taylor Swift, they made the announcement publicly on Instagram. Swift, who’s riding a wave of new success thanks to her “The Life of a Showgirl” album, wanted to share the good news with her friends.

One of those friends happens to be another music superstar, Ed Sheeran. Now, there are numerous ways to communicate with people worldwide, whether publicly or privately. Swift had trouble sharing her news with Sheeran.

What Happened Between Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran?

When Swift talked about not being able to reach Sheeran right away, it offered an insight into how Sheeran doesn’t stay glued to the social media world all the time.

“He doesn’t have a phone,” Swift said in an interview with E Online. “You have to email him. If you want to set up a FaceTime, he has to find an iPad. They have to give it to him like he’s a child that you give the iPad to.

“This is one of my absolute favorite people on the planet,” Swift said. “When the news came out, I was like, ‘We forgot to call Ed! Oh no!’ He’s like family. I love him. But he doesn’t have a phone.

“When I’m going through, being like, ‘Hey, who should we call? Who should we FaceTime?’ I’m going through my texts and being like, ‘Who have I texted in the last month of my life?’ And he just wasn’t there.”

Swift and Kelce announced their engagement on August 26. They have managed to keep most of their relationship out of the tabloids and ever-growing social media platforms. Both of them are high-profile people, Kelce in the NFL and Swift in entertainment.

Meanwhile, Kelce has been quite busy lately. Besides wondering about a future bachelor party ahead of his wedding, Kelce’s team, the Chiefs, is off to a tough start in the 2025 NFL season. Kansas City went on the road last Monday and lost a 31-28 heartbreaker to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Kansas City is 2-3 after five weeks, one game behind the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos in the AFC West Division. In the Chiefs’ five games, Kelce has 22 receptions for 243 yards and two touchdowns. According to the PFSN Offense Impact metrics, the Chiefs’ offense has an 83.6 Impact score.

Swift recently appeared on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon and discussed her new album, the considerable attention surrounding her, and a potential Super Bowl halftime show appearance.
