Top 2026 NFL Draft Prospects
I use my sub-trait grade framework to sort players into brackets, and then have the autonomy to sort players within those brackets based on other notable factors such as production, medicals, off-field history, and more.
The 2025 college football season has already given us countless NFL Draft developments to monitor, and we’ll have plenty of time to go over them all as the season progresses. Today, we’ll start by rehashing the top QBs and the debate that Ty Simpson, Fernando Mendoza, and Dante Moore are stirring up.
Simpson taking the QB1 mantle — albeit by a slim margin — was perhaps the biggest story in my previous Top 100 update. This week, after a letdown against Oklahoma, he remains in QB1 standing, but it’s a essentially a 1a-1b-1c situation with him, Mendoza, and Moore.
One-year starters aren’t supposed to be as sharp as Simpson is pre-snap, or as quick-to-process and anticipate as Simpson is post-snap, or as fearless as Simpson is throwing over the middle of the field. Combine that with his acceptable talent level, and it’s hard to bet against the budding NFL-caliber passer.
Having said all this, Simpson’s mechanics — while fast and energetic — can also be frenetic at times, which contributes to a type of situational imprecision that Mendoza and Moore don’t seem to suffer from as often.
Mendoza was immaculate this past week, as was Moore, and both passers can boast greater accuracy and greater upside than Simpson. Mendoza remains the fearless gunslinger that won over evaluators in the summer, but he’s also intelligent and measured with how he takes risks.
Moore, meanwhile, is the smooth operator and ball handler, who’s flashed exciting field vision, opportunity recognition, and anticipation in recent weeks, while using his effortless arm talent and off-platform ability to distribute from different launch points and angles.
The QB1 race is close enough that it’s almost entirely a matter of preference — and we still have a long way to go before things are settled. Either one of Simpson, Mendoza, or Moore could wind up my QB1 when rankings are finalized in April — if all three declare.
