The slide for Shedeur Sanders was shocking on multiple levels. A potential QB1 turning into QB6 during the course of the draft and being taken off the board in the fifth round was a surprise, to say the least. But what made it doubly surprising was the connections Sanders already had in the league.
Throughout the draft process, his connection to Tom Brady, the new minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, made the rounds. As a result, the Raiders passing him on five teams led many, most notably ardent Brady supporter Skip Bayless, to speculate. However, the seven-time Super Bowl Champion put an end to all the rumors.
Tom Brady Goes After Skip Bayless and the Media
For the better part of a decade, Bayless has been one of the strongest defenders and supporters of Brady in the national media. Reportedly, his fandom was the reason for his split with longtime Undisputed co-host and NFL legend Shannon Sharpe.
Until it came to Shedeur Sanders. After staking his claim for Sanders being the best quarterback in the class, he fired off incendiary tweets, directly aimed at the GOAT.
“HOW COULD TOM BRADY’S TEAM PASS ON SHEDEUR AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN??? BRADY REPORTEDLY COACHED SHEDEUR. BRADY REPORTEDLY WAS INVOLVED IN RAIDERS DRAFT DECISION-MAKING.”

Then, he claimed that Brady instructed the team not to draft him. However, Brady wasn’t having any of it. During an appearance on the IMPAULSIVE podcast with YouTuber and WWE superstar Logan Paul, he directly went after the media and acknowledged the comments from Bayless.
He first rebuffed the original claims about his involvement. “I wasn’t a part of any evaluation process.” His comments have been confirmed in later reports as well, with his only involvement centered around recommending North Dakota State’s quarterback Cam Miller.
When someone brought up the comments from the veteran media personality, Brady had a quick eye roll before going after the media at large.
“That’s a problem with the media. Everyone can just say whatever the f*** they want and get away with it. It’s kind of unfortunate ’cause there actually used to be a lot of integrity in media, and there’s way less now.”
Instead, he believes it has become a culture of craziness. “Because everyone needs crazy voices to get heard, and it actually hurts a lot of relationships, which is not the goal of broadcasting. It should be to develop and cultivate, and solve problems, rather than the critiques.”
Instead of shying away from his relationship with Sanders, he would go on to reveal that he was in constant communication with the young quarterback, even offering him advice on how to proceed with the rest of his journey.
