During today’s slate of games, one of the biggest storylines actually had nothing to do with the NFL teams. Focus was on legend Drew Brees’ return to the booth, where he announced the New York Giants’ matchup against the Green Bay Packers.
With Brees making his debut on Fox Sports, he will be joining a star-studded group of color commentators. Former Panthers TE Greg Olson is one of the best announcers in football, along with NFL legend Tom Brady.
Fellow Legendary QB Gives Drew Brees Some Advice Before His Return to the Booth
Expectations were high for Brees’ return to commentating, even if he struggled the first time. And Brady had some needed advice for his fellow former quarterback.
Fox Sports’ official NFL handle posted a video with the caption, “Don’t read all those social media comments.” 😂@TomBrady gave some advice to @drewbrees before his broadcast booth debut today on FOX!”

Due to both of their previous commenting mishaps, Brady started with warnings from his own experience, saying, “I’d warn him of all the mistakes I made in my first year, but we’d be here for an hour.”
He then went on to say how Brees needed no guidance as he knew what to do, saying, “So, I’m not gonna tell you any of those things. He knows what to do.” Then Brady gave his advice, which dwelled more on the aftermath of the show, saying, “Have fun, just enjoy yourself, and don’t read all those social media comments after.”
There may be two main reasons why Brady said this to Brees: One being Brady’s debut when he started commentating, and the other being Brees’ original debut in the booth.

At the beginning of the 2024 season, Brady made his own debut, and it was not a great one. The former QB who never looked nervous in his career somehow sounded nervous in the booth. Like a rookie QB making his NFL Debut, the reactions on social media were overwhelmingly negative, and this was the case for the rest of the season.
It took some time for Brady to get the hang of commentating, but Brees did not get that opportunity. In 2022, during the Las Vegas Raiders’ playoff matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, Brees called his first game ever, and it was not a success. Like with Brady, the social media reactions were mostly bad. This would be the last time he commented for NBC.
Brady’s warning to Brees to stay away from social media makes sense, given their shared history of struggles in commenting on games. One of the main things Brady also mentioned was for Brees to “have fun,” which is something that some of the best commentators bring to their craft.
