‘We’ve Had Some Phone Calls’ – Titans GM Hints at Generational Talent in 2025 NFL Draft

Earlier in the week, Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi revealed that other teams have discussed trading the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

While he did not reveal who reached out or what the exact discussions were about, he did outline how the talks did occur. In the same interview, Borgonzi made clear that he would do what was best for the Titans long-term, detailing how he would not pass on a generational talent in the upcoming draft.

What Did Mike Borgonzi Say About the 2025 NFL Draft?

Borgonzi highlighted how he had some discussion about the first overall pick but would do what was best for the Titans.

NFL.com senior news writer Kevin Patra provided some of the quotes from Borgonzi’s interview at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.

The Titans GM shared, “Anytime you have the No. 1 pick, it’s going to be a topic of conversation. I would say we’ve had some phone calls. I would keep those phone calls to the vest, but we’ve had some phone calls.”

“At the end of the day, we have to make the best decision for the Titans. And if we deem taking a quarterback is the most important thing right now, then we’ll do that.”

“There’s a handful of players, anytime that you’re at the top of the draft, that you would deem generational talents, and we certainly feel that way this year as well.”

What Will The Tennessee Titans Do With the No. 1 Overall Pick?

The Titans desperately need a quarterback. The combination of Will Levis and Mason Rudolph struggled mightily in 2024, and it seems extremely unlikely that the Titans will run it back with the same signal callers next year. Though bringing in a veteran quarterback is not out of the question, it seems likely that the Titans will try to rebuild their franchise through the NFL Draft this year.

PFSN’s NFL Draft analyst Ben Rolfe would seem to agree, as he had the Titans choosing a quarterback with the first pick in his latest 7-round 2025 NFL Mock Draft. In that draft, Borgonzi and the Titans selected Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick.

As Rolfe notes in his reasoning, “Ward is a fantastic playmaker at the position and would add dynamism to the offense. He is far from the finished product, which is a concern given that this Titans offense is not currently set up to be a place for developing a quarterback. However, getting to work with Brian Callahan should only bring the best out of him in the NFL.”
