Following the Aaron Rodgers injury on Monday Night Football, the New York Jets must face adversity head-on. Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon on the fourth play of the season, ending his 2023 season and potential career.

Following the injury, many in NFL circles are speculating that the Jets may bring in other options at the QB position. Tom Brady, Matt Ryan, Colin Kaepernick, Carson Wentz, Jameis Winston, and others have been mentioned as intriguing possibilities for a Jets team with Super Bowl aspirations.

Reportedly, the Jets have made overtures for veteran QB options, but they may not be the high-profile names discussed above. If you believe Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh, they aren’t interested in bringing in another starter at all.

What Did Robert Saleh Say About the New York Jets QB Quandry?

Jets fans, the team, and the entire organization are going through it today, the day after they witnessed their franchise QB, for whom they traded multiple high draft picks and more, fall victim to one of the worst injuries in football.

Rodger’s Achilles injury is about as bad as it gets, and for an aging QB in the twilight of his career, it is fair to speculate whether this is the last we have seen of the future Hall-of-Famer on an NFL football field. The Jets organization is left to rally their team and their fanbase.

Saleh addressed the media today and put to bed the idea of a QB controversy or even QB competition in The Big Apple.

“Under no circumstances is any of this a competition. This is Zach (Wilson)’s team, and we’re rolling with Zach.”

Saleh did confirm the Jets will look at veteran and young QB options to fill out their QB room, but this is Wilson’s team for the foreseeable future.

Zach Wilson is the former No. 2 overall selection and has talent, but he hasn’t put it together during his young career. Wilson has been booed during Jets home games, and his performance was why New York traded for Aaron Rodgers in the first place.

    MORE Who Is Zach Wilson?

For his part, Wilson has spoken highly of Rodgers and admits taking a step back in the short term may benefit his career in the long term. Garrett Wilson spoke about Zach’s maturity and that he was rallying the team at halftime of the Buffalo Bills game.

Saleh is doubling down on the Jets chances in 2023. “I don’t know why people are trying to put an obituary to our team name,” the coach told reporters.
