WTA star Sloane Stephens expresses excitement as her philanthropic efforts get recognized with a notable award.

When Sloane Stephens stepped onto the ESPY Awards stage to accept the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award, she wasn’t just collecting another trophy. For the 32-year-old tennis champion, this moment represented something far more meaningful than any victory on the court. The recognition came for work that’s been quietly changing lives, one young person at a time, through her foundation’s efforts to provide education, mental health services, and safe spaces for underserved youth.

How Has Stephens’ Foundation Impacted Thousands of Young Lives?

The 2017 US Open champion recently made headlines by taking center stage at the ESPY awards. Stephens was awarded for her social impact on the younger generation through programs that provide better education and services.

After the ceremony, Stephens took to Instagram to share glimpses from the venue where she was seen holding the trophy. Dressed in a glamorous outfit with golden threads, the WTA star received support from countless fans. Along with the pictures, she expressed her feelings after being recognized for her philanthropic efforts.

“So honored to receive the 2025 Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award. This one means everything. I’ve been lucky to live my dream on the court, but the work we do through the @sloanestephensfoundation is my purpose. It’s for the kids who deserve to be seen, the ones who just need a safe place to grow, and the communities that shaped me,” she wrote.

“I know I was put here to do more than hit a tennis ball and while I’ve done that with pride, I’m most fulfilled by the impact we’re building beyond the game. Thank you to my family, my team, and every young person who reminds me what’s possible. This award has my name on it, but it belongs to all of us 🤍”

Stephens founded the Sloane Stephens Foundation in 2013, at age 20, with the mission of improving opportunities for underserved youth through programs in tennis, education, mental health, financial literacy, swimming, and soccer. The organization has impacted over 10,000 to 15,000 young people nationally, providing academic support, mental health services, and safe athletic spaces.

What Historic Tennis Moment Did Stephens Recently Share?

While Stephens stays away from competition amid the toll of a recent injury, her experience as a professional player continues making headlines. The WTA star shared the stage alongside Venus Williams and Coco Gauff as they offered their perspectives at Roland Garros.

“I’m so glad you’re here; because of you and Sloane, there are so many young girls who are picking up racquets, and that’s so important,” Williams said.

Sharing a glimpse of the moment, Stephens dropped a reaction to the gathering of three generations of American tennis champions.

“This isn’t just a photo. It’s a page in the history books,” she said.
