How Novak Djokovic and the Tennis World Reacted to Ignacio Buse’s Hamburg Victory

After battling through the qualifiers of the ATP 500 event in Hamburg, Buse pulled off a stunning 6-2, 7-5 upset over No. 4 seed Flavio Cobolli in the first round. The 22-year-old continued his stellar run by triumphing over Jakub Menšík and Ugo Humbert to reach the semifinals, where he defeated Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-1, 6-4.

Buse faced a tough challenge against No. 6 seed Tommy Paul in the final. However, he secured a 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-3 victory in the closely contested encounter to clinch his maiden ATP title, becoming the first Peruvian to lift an ATP trophy since Luis Horna won the Chile Open in 2007.

Amid his preparations for the French Open, Djokovic took time to congratulate Buse on his breakthrough success in Hamburg.

“Congratulations Ignacio! The first of many,” Djokovic posted.

And I also want to see my mom, who is at Roland Garros waiting for me,” he said.
