Madison Keys secured a place in the semifinals of the Queen’s Club Championships after defeating Diana Shnaider in an utterly grueling quarterfinal contest. After the win, the American candidly spoke about rejecting mid-match serving tips she receives from her husband and coach, Bjorn Fratangelo.
Madison Keys Admits That She Doesn’t Like Husband Bjorn’s Advice
After a relatively modest clay-court season, Keys shifted her focus to the grass-court swing. She was impressive at the Queen’s Club Championships, dispatching Anastasia Zakharova in the second round before overcoming Diana Shnaider in the quarterfinals. Keys staged a remarkable comeback against the Russian, rallying from a set down to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Keys’ husband, Fratangelo, also her full-time coach, accompanied her to the WTA 500 event. During her on-court post-match interview, Keys was asked about receiving serving advice mid-match from her husband and how she decides whether to act on it.
The reigning Australian Open champion had the crowd in stitches with her response.
“Sometimes I don’t like where he is telling me to serve. So, I just take it as an option and I choose to do something else, so that’s why we work so well together,” she said.

Keys and Fratangelo began dating in 2017 and announced their engagement in March 2023. The couple tied the knot last year in an intimate ceremony in Charleston, attended by close friends and family members. Notable tennis names, including Jessica Pegula and Taylor Townsend, were also present at the ceremony.
Keys Amuses the Crowd After Comparing London Weather to Florida Post QF Win
Keys revealed her humorous side following her quarterfinal win at the Queen’s Club Championships. Earlier in the interview, the American stated that she preferred playing on warm, sunny days, being a “Floridian.” While Friday’s conditions were sunny, they still weren’t warm enough for Keys.
“I definitely like a warm sunny day, being a Floridian. This is a nice winter day in Florida. Definitely happy when it’s nice and warm and the ball is just kind of moving through the court a little bit more,” she said.
Keys registered one of the biggest triumphs of her career at the 2025 Australian Open after defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the final. However, she hasn’t been able to win a title since then.
The 27-year-old now has an opportunity to win her second title of the season at the WTA 500 event in London. She will face Tatjana Maria or Elena Rybakina in the semifinals.
