Jessica Pegula spokecouldn’t hold herself back from applauding Iga Świątek’s commendable form on grass after winning the WTA 500 title in Bad Homburg. The American pro denied Świątek’s self-claims of not being good on grass, admitting to the fact that she gave an amazing performance throughout the week.
Jessica Pegula Busts Iga Świątek’s Myth of Not Being Good Enough on Grass
Jessica Pegula defeated Iga Świątek 6-4, 7-5 in the final. With this, she stopped the Polish player from winning her first grass-court title. Even though Swiatek had been a junior Wimbledon champion, she found it tough to play on faster grass courts as a pro.
Despite making it to her first-ever grass court final, she couldn’t emerge victorious in the challenge against the American pro. After the match, the Pole said that she still had hope on grass.
“This tournament showed that there’s hope for me on grass. So I’m happy we could play here,” Świątek said during her runner-up speech.

In her winner’s speech, Pegula congratulated Świątek on her run at the tournament and said that she was very good on grass.
“Congrats Iga, on a great week to you and to your team. I know you say you can’t play on grass but trust me, you’re still very, very good on grass. So cut yourself some slack there,” she said.

The American player also wished the Pole good luck for Wimbledon, adding:
“Good luck next week as well. I know a quick turnaround for both of us but hopefully you guys are good. Have a good, healthy few weeks and wish you all nothing but the best.”
Swiatek has failed to move past the fourth round at Wimbledon since 2023. While the WTA star is now on the hunt for her first title since Roland Garros 2024, it still remains to be seen if she could secure a notable position.
Jessica Pegula On Not Staying at the Wimbledon Hotel
Jessica Pegula recently explained the reason behind her denial to stay at the Wimbledon hotel. The WTA star explained how her priorities have taken a slight shift towards comfort, especially when it comes to taking rest after a match day.
“We’re either on the court, or we’re in the hotel room. It’s such a big part of our lives, and as I’ve gotten older, a good hotel has become more of a priority. When you’re 20 and you’re just starting to travel, you’re not complaining that much: you’re more out there grinding and embracing life on tour. Once you hit 30 and kind of need a better pillow, that stuff honestly becomes really important,” she said.
Following her triumph at the Bad Homburg Open, Pegula now has 35 wins out of 47 matches so far in the 2025 season, winning three titles.
