Tennis fans recently reacted to the news of Sebastian Korda’s withdrawal from the 2025 Citi DC Open due to an injury. This withdrawal means that the former World No. 15 will not be defending his title at the tournament and will also forfeit 500 ranking points.
The Citi DC Open is scheduled to take place from Jul. 19 to Jul. 27, 2025, at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center. Last year, Korda was seeded fourth and began his campaign in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. He defeated Cristian Garín, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Jordan Thompson, and Frances Tiafoe to secure his place in the final.
In the championship match, the American triumphed over tenth seed Flavio Cobolli with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-0, claiming his second ATP Tour title and his maiden ATP 500 title overall.
Fans React to Sebastian Korda Withdrawing From Title Defense at Citi DC Open 2025 Due to Injury
Korda previously revealed that he sustained a stress fracture in his shin during the clay season, which caused him to miss the entire grass-court swing, including the Wimbledon Championships.
Following his withdrawal from Washington, the American may also miss the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open, the key tournaments leading up to the US Open, hoping to recover before the Grand Slam event.
Korda’s decision not to defend his title at the Citi DC Open has drawn various reactions from tennis fans, who took to social media to express their thoughts.
One fan commented that the former World No. 15 must be feeling “frustrated” about being unable to defend those 500 ranking points.
“Ah so frustrating for Korda, defending 500 points and won’t be able to compete. Body letting him down again such a shame,” a fan posted.
