Why Has Iga Świątek, Carlos Alcaraz, Paula Badosa, and Others’ 1 Off-Season Commitment Triggered Fans? All To Know

Despite the ongoing tennis offseason, several top players have remained actively engaged. Carlos Alcaraz, Matteo Berrettini, Paula Badosa, and others have been recently involved in a major coaching project with Lux Tennis. The move quickly drew attention on social media, with many fans questioning the players’ decision in the comments.

Fans Question Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Świątek, and Others’ Offseason Commitment

The official tennis season typically concludes in November, providing players with a significant opportunity to reset and recharge ahead of the new campaign. However, some opt to stay match-ready by featuring in short exhibition events during the offseason. Alcaraz is one such player, with two exhibition appearances lined up next month in Newark and Miami.

Beyond exhibitions, luxury resorts have also entered the offseason tennis space by offering premium “tennis lesson” experiences. Heavily promoted by Lux Tennis, the project is set to be staged across several of its partner luxury resorts worldwide, including destinations such as the Maldives, Mauritius, COMO Parrot Cay, Oman, and Le Saint Géran.

In fact, the project has also enlisted several marquee women’s and men’s tennis names, including Alcaraz, Świątek, Berrettini, Badosa, Caroline Garcia, and others.

For those unaware, Carlos Alcaraz is scheduled to take part in the Turks and Caicos Islands leg in December, while Paula Badosa has already featured in the Maldives. Meanwhile, Iga Świątek and Karen Khachanov participated in the event held in Mauritius.

Several fans recently reacted to this update, with many questioning the players’ inclusion in the project. One fan asked, “Why you need to do this? Are these resorts so expensive that a professional tennis player cannot afford?”

Another fan said, “Sometimes I’m just kind of bamboozled by how super wealthy people live their lives. Like, is this just for bragging rights? Do they really feel they get anything out of a “tennis clinic” with a top star that they couldn’t get from working with a regular coach? Edit: in case it wasn’t clear I was referring to the people attending the sessions, not the players, who are presumably motivated by easy money and a free holiday.”

“If I were rich as hell, I’d love to play with top players on my vacation,” a user weighed in.

A fan criticized Świątek and Alcaraz’s decision, writing, “Not sure why Iga and Carlos are doing this. Its low key embarassing for them.”

“So this is why the top players want more time off…,” another chimed in.

A fan accused Alcaraz of prioritizing appearance fees over recovery, arguing he chose lucrative exhibition events over resting at home.

“Carlos has played 6 kings two years in a row when he could have been at home instead, especially with his ankle injury this year. He clearly goes where the money is,” they said.

It is worth noting that both Alcaraz and Świątek arrive at this project on the back of extraordinary seasons. Alcaraz captured eight titles, including two Grand Slams, while the Pole lifted three trophies, highlighted by her maiden Wimbledon crown.
