Amanda Anisimova vs Sonay Kartal Preview
Eighth seed Amanda Anisimova will take on local girl Sonay Kartal in the second round of the Queen’s Club Championships. The winner of the match will face either third seed Emma Navarro or Beatriz Haddad Maia in the quarterfinals of the grass-court event.
Anisimova entered the WTA 500 event after exiting the French Open in the fourth round. The American beat Nina Stojanovic, Viktorija Golubic and 22nd seed Clara Tauson before losing to eventual runner-up Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
Anisimova started her campaign at the Queen’s Club Championships against Jodie Burrage and found herself a set down. However, she bounced back to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 and book her place in the second round of the WTA 500 event.
Sonay Kartal’s clay-court campaign ended with a second-round exit at the French Open, where she thrashed Erika Andreeva before losing 1-6, 4-6 to Marie Bouzkova. The 23-year-old received a wildcard to the Queen’s Club Championships and faced Daria Kasatkina in the first round.
Kartal won the opening set 6-1 but the Russian bounced back to take the second set 6-3 and force the match into a decider. The Brit eventually took the final set register a 6-1, 3-6-3 win and reach the second round of the Queen’s Club Championships.
Amanda Anisimova vs Sonay Kartal Head-to-Head
The head-to-head between the two currently stands at 0-0.
Amanda Anisimova vs Sonay Kartal Prediction
Anisimova will enter the match as the favorite to win given her relatively better run of form. The American loves to play her shots and is a pretty powerful hitter of a tennis ball. Her return of serve and court coverage will also come in handy.
Sonay Kartal plays aggressively from the back of the court and she has a lot of variety in her shots. The Brit has a high rally tolerance and will look to wear Anisimova down and force her to make errors.
Kartal put on a promising performance at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, where she reached the fourth round, so she is not someone who should be written off. That said, if Amanda Anisimova is at her best, she should be able to triumph over the Brit and reach the quarterfinals of the Queen’s Club Championships.
Prediction: Anisimova to win in straight sets.
