Alexandra Eala Creates an Adorable Moment for Her Parents at the ASB Classic

During her doubles match with Iva Jovic, Eala ensured that the kiss cam caught sight of her parents, who were watching the match from the stands. The kiss cam is a unique audience gimmick used in several sports tournaments, where if the camera lands on a couple sitting in the stadium, they can share a kiss in front of everyone, which is cheered on by the crowd.

During the doubles match, the camera caught Eala’s parents, who sportingly shared an adorable kiss, winning a bottle of honey as a result. The announcer at the stadium cheekily announced that Alex may or may not have something to do with that, and the Filipino player was all in smiles at the moment as the camera panned to her.

Eala has been in splendid form at the ASB Classic, reaching the semifinals in both singles and doubles. Paired with Iva Jovic, the pair got a victory against the high-profile pair of Venus Williams and Elina Svitolina in the first round. They got a walkover in the quarterfinals, but then lost to the third-seeded pair of Xu Yifan and Yang Zhaoxuan.

In the singles, Eala entered the draw as the fourth seed and has demonstrated an excellent level of tennis, advancing to the semifinals. She has won against the likes of Donna Vekić, Petra Marčinko, and the fifth-seeded Magda Linette to reach the semifinal. She is slated to face off against Wang Xinyu in the last-four, the match scheduled on January 10.

It was last year that Eala grabbed the attention of the tennis world with some excellent results. At the Miami Open, the Filipino player reached the semifinal, with victories over Grand Slam champions, such as Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys, and Iga Świątek, before losing to Jessica Pegula, whom she stretched to a competitive three-set match.

The Miami result was not a flash in the pan, as Eala had a runner-up finish at the Eastbourne International, losing to Maya Joint in the final, despite having match points. She won a Challenger event in Guadalajara, defeating Panna Udavardy in the final. On the Tour, she did have a disappointing end, having three first-round exits in the last four events that she played in.
