Taylor Swift Secretly Attended Chiefs Games Before Her Relationship With Travis Kelce Went Public

A Chiefs assistant coach recently revealed that Taylor Swift was around the team "privately" before she was spotted at the KC/Chicago game in Week 3.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship has been the subject of plenty of discussion and media coverage since it became public knowledge when she was spotted at the Kansas City Chiefs‘ Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears. One of the Chiefs’ assistant coaches revealed on a recent podcast that Swift actually attended games prior to her relationship with Kelce becoming public knowledge.

Taylor Swift Attended Chiefs Games Prior to Relationship Going Public

Swift and Kelce’s relationship has been a hot topic in the NFL world and across Swift’s fan base ever since the relationship became public knowledge early in the season. Coverage of the pair only grew as the season progressed, stirring plenty of controversy as to whether Swift was being shown too much on broadcasts of Kansas City’s games.

The Chiefs continued advancing all the way to Super Bowl 58 and won their second straight Lombardi Trophy, leading to an embrace and kiss between Kelce and Swift after the game that went viral.

Kansas City assistant coach Dave Merritt, who coaches the team’s defensive backs, revealed last week that Swift was around the team prior to their Week 3 game against the Bears after he was asked about her presence around the team during an appearance on The Sports Shop podcast.

“When she started to come around, it was privately,” Merritt said. “She was coming into the stadiums without people really knowing until the camera put a big spotlight on her.”

Merritt was also asked about how Swift’s presence and the ensuing media coverage around her relationship with Kelce affected the team.

Although it seemed logical that her presence could have been a distraction for the Chiefs, Merritt said he felt Swift became another part of the team and actually had a positive impact on Kelce and the team in general throughout the season.

“Upon meeting her, I felt like she actually added to what we were trying to do,” Merritt said. “There were so many people hating the fact that she was being shown on TV that, you know what, you’re part of our family because you’re now with Travis, so you’re our little sister, or whatever it may be.

“You’re part of the family. She actually affected the team in a positive way. It wasn’t a negative way. Everybody was excited that Travis was happy. When my brother is happy beside me, that helps me and encourages me. Travis came in there a different man. She helped us.”

Kelce certainly had a productive season for Kansas City, catching 93 passes for 984 yards and five touchdowns across 15 regular-season appearances, all starts. He came up just short of reaching the 1,000-yard mark for the eighth straight season, but was a crucial part of the Chiefs’ passing game nonetheless and remained a focal point in the playoffs.

Kelce went for 70+ yards in all four of the team’s playoff games, including nine catches for 93 yards in the Super Bowl win as Kansas City took the win 25-22 in overtime over the San Francisco 49ers.
