There’s been some skepticism around the Dallas Cowboys’ acquisition of wide receiver George Pickens. Most analysts point to his penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct, questions about maturity in the locker room, and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin reportedly telling him to “grow up.”
Still, a vocal minority is brushing those concerns aside and focusing on his talent. They see a potential star pairing with quarterback Dak Prescott. At the very least, one former NFL player believes Dallas could have two receivers putting up monster numbers if things click.
James Jones Thinks It’s Going To Be ‘Easy’ for Dak Prescott To Keep Lamb and Pickens ‘Happy’
Former NFL wide receiver James Jones raved about the CeeDee Lamb–George Pickens combo on FS1’s “The Facility.” How can Dak Prescott keep both receivers satisfied? Jones thinks it’s simple.
“Listen, man, this is gonna be a big-time duo,” Jones said.
“Dak Prescott, this should be easy, man. I seen Aaron Rodgers make five people happy … The ball is going to be in your hands. Give George Pickens some opportunities to go make plays, and obviously CeeDee Lamb will get his opportunity. But giving these dudes six, seven targets a game? That’s extremely easy for them, and it should be more.”
“Number one, it depends on the targets,” Jones added, referring to Lamb. “Because now they’re gonna have to play you different. I’m not gonna see a lot of double teams. I’m gonna see a lot of one-on-ones because number 14 is over there … If these dudes get seven or 10 targets a game, which is very, very easy, they are going to have some catches. That is not hard for Dak Prescott.”
When asked what kind of numbers they could post, Jones was direct: “10 touchdowns a piece, a thousand plus.”

That’s a bold projection — only a handful of wide receiver duos have done that since the mid-1990s:
1995 Detroit Lions: Herman Moore (1,686 yards, 14 TDs) and Brett Perriman (1,488 yards, 9 TDs)
2000 St. Louis Rams: Torry Holt (1,635 yards, 6 TDs) and Isaac Bruce (1,471 yards, 9 TDs)
2004 Indianapolis Colts: Marvin Harrison (1,113 yards, 15 TDs) and Reggie Wayne (1,210 yards, 12 TDs)
2014 Denver Broncos: Demaryius Thomas (1,619 yards, 11 TDs) and Emmanuel Sanders (1,404 yards, 9 TDs)
2021 Cincinnati Bengals: Ja’Marr Chase (1,455 yards, 13 TDs) and Tee Higgins (1,091 yards, 6 TDs)
The potential is clearly there. The Cowboys are built to throw and lack a dominant running game. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is expected to use motion and shifting pre-snap to create mismatches. With Lamb and Pickens lining up outside, defenses could be in for a challenge.
Now, the only question is whether the concerns about Pickens’ attitude are overblown — and whether he can find a lasting role in the Cowboys’ locker room.
a Dallas Cowboys fan, since the 70’s Jerry Jones better hope that George Pickens won’t be selfish while playing for the Cowboys
