Super Bowl LIV between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs will take place on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The game will be broadcast in the United States by FOX, who will provide coverage throughout the day. The game is scheduled to kick off at 6:30 PM.
San Francisco 49ers | NFC Champions
The San Francisco 49ers finished the 2019 season with a 13-3 record, best in the NFC. Under head coach Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers rise to the top seemingly came out of nowhere as they had a 10-22 record in his first two seasons. But with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo healthy after tearing his ACL in the early part of the 2018 season and a dominant rushing attack, the 49ers have been able to keep teams off balance throughout the entire season. That, along with their imposing defensive line, is going to be a big factor in Super Bowl LIV.
This will be the 49ers’ seventh Super Bowl appearance in team history, and their first since Super Bowl XLVII in 2013. The 49ers have a 5–1 record in their previous six appearances and will be looking to add a sixth victory against the Chiefs. If they do win, this will tie the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers with the most Super Bowl championships in the NFL.
Kansas City Chiefs | AFC Champions
The Kansas City Chiefs finished the 2019 season with a 12-4 record under head coach Andy Reid. This season marked their fourth straight AFC West title and sixth playoff appearance in seven seasons with Reid at the helm. Once again, the Chiefs were led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes and a high-powered offense. In 2019, Mahomes threw for 4,031 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also added 218 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He leaned on tight end Travis Kelce, who caught 97 passes for 1,229 yards and 5 touchdowns, making him the first NFL tight end to have four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.
Just several inches away from the Super Bowl last year, they were able to right the ship and get to the big game. Now, they’ll have the chance to win their first Super Bowl in 50 years. This will be their third Super Bowl appearance and the first since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. Their overall record in Super Bowls is 101, losing to the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl I. They were victories in Super Bowl IV, defeating the Minnesota Vikings 23-7.
