ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith detailed how he could envision Deion Sanders coaching the LSU Tigers in the future. On his popular “First Take” show, Smith outlined his belief that Sanders should be coaching for a much larger football program than the University of Colorado Boulder has to offer.
Though fans of LSU may have enjoyed hearing these comments by the famous sports analyst, supporters of the Buffaloes, as well as the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders, may have found Smith’s comments somewhat frustrating and disappointing.
What Did Stephen A. Smith Say About Deion Sanders’ Future?
In a segment of the popular talk, Smith explained how he believed Sanders deserved a much more national stage than the one he currently has in Boulder, Colorado.
“No disrespect to the wonderful citizens of Boulder, Colorado, but me looking at Prime Time in Boulder, Colorado, I just think there is a bigger scene that’s meant for him” he stated.

Smith continued by discussing which other college football programs he could see Sanders moving to if he did indeed step away from the Buffaloes.
“I thought about Texas A&M SEC and now I’m thinking about LSU. That’s what I’m thinking about when I’m thinking about Prime Time”, he added.
Coach Prime’s Potential Landing Spots
While Sanders has given no definitive indication that he plans on leaving Colorado for either LSU or the NFL, a move to either of these scenarios has the ability to attract stars from all over the college and professional level. Since his arrival to Colorado in 2022, Sanders’ aggressive recruiting techniques have resulted in the Buffaloes obtaining the talents of stars such as Travis Hunter and Julian Lewis.
As a result, a move to LSU, one of the top college football programs in the country and one that most recently won the 2020 National Championship, could create a recruiting frenzy for the Baton Rouge, Louisiana school. With elite prospects such as Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, and Ja’Marr Chase previously coming through the football program, Coach Prime’s presence with the Tigers could present even more intrigue in one of the country’s preeminent football schools.
In recent months, there has been much speculation that Sanders could make the move to the NFL, specifically the heavily rumored Cowboys or Raiders. With both franchises struggling and numerous coaching questions being raised in recent weeks, fans of these clubs will be disappointed to hear that Smith’s ideal landing spot for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee Sanders does not include their team.
During a recent appearance on “Speak,” Hall of Famer Michael Irvin expressed his desire for the Cowboys to make a move to bring in both Deion and Shedeur, which would generate new hype around the team.
“We need Deion and Shedeur, that’s just what it is,” Irvin said. “We need something different, we need something explosive, and we need someone who can give us new hype.”

Irvin further emphasized copying the Atlanta Falcons’ model of drafting a quarterback while already having a solid veteran on a big deal. He added, “I love what Atlanta did. Atlanta stacked up on quarterbacks. … I don’t mind stacking up, Dak can play another year or two before you let him go, and then it’s the kid’s time.”
