Apart from having aging starting quarterbacks, the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers are both holding Super Bowl aspirations in a best-case scenario for the 2025 season. But both rosters underwent major changes to make that dream more realistic.
While the Steelers acquired Aaron Rodgers as their new quarterback, the Rams landed his top wide receiver, Davante Adams, to replace Cooper Kupp. However, according to one analyst, both teams could still use more help in the pass-catching department, with one specific wide receiver in mind.

Steelers, Rams Linked to Romeo Doubs Trade Amid WR Depth Concerns
The Rams had a very active offseason, parting ways with both Kupp and Demarcus Robinson before adding a more durable option in Adams. In the 2025 NFL Draft, they were quieter at wide receiver, taking Konata Mumpfield in the seventh round.
The Steelers also reworked their receiver rotation, trading George Pickens and bringing in DK Metcalf. Still, for both squads, the depth at wide receiver looks shaky.
And with quarterbacks who aren’t known for mobility at this stage of their careers, some extra support could help. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, in his list of trade targets, named both teams as potential landing spots for Romeo Doubs of the Green Bay Packers.
Since entering the league as a fourth-round pick in 2022, Doubs has steadily built a solid resume, topping 600 yards in each of the past two seasons. He’s also scored 15 touchdowns across three years, including a career-high eight in 2023.
Neither team lit it up offensively last season. Pittsburgh ranked 25th in PFSN’s Offense+ metric, while the Rams were a bit better at No. 11. Even Rodgers’ former team, the New York Jets, only came in at No. 19.
There’s been talk recently about how Romeo Doubs has stepped up as a leader for the receiver group

That’s part of why Knox sees Doubs as a strong trade candidate. After a year full of rumors, he could still be a name to watch. The Packers have a deep receiver room, and those whispers could get louder.
“Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks are back, and the Packers used first- and third-round picks on Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, respectively, in April. If Green Bay decides to move one of its young pass-catchers, Doubs, who topped 600 receiving yards in each of the last two seasons, would be a logical candidate.”
Even at 25, Doubs is one of the veteran-most receivers in the room and has taken on a leadership role.
Both Pittsburgh and L.A. could use more help at wideout, and Knox pointed to Doubs’ connection with Rodgers as a clear reason to consider a deal. He’s also in the final year of his rookie contract.
“The Los Angeles Rams might want to take a flier on Doubs as depth behind Davante Adams and Puka Nacua. L.A. parted with both Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Robinson this offseason and employs passing game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant [offensive consultant during Doubs’ rookie season].”
Either team could make a move for another receiver, but in terms of urgency, the Steelers might need it more. Their quarterback play struggled in 2024, and there’s no solid No. 2 behind Metcalf.
