There’s always debate about the value of each pick in the NFL Draft. Teams must balance a player’s talent against their draft position to make the best possible selection. That discussion has only intensified around this year’s quarterback class, potentially pushing some prospects up or down draft boards.
One of the most polarizing prospects in this draft is Shedeur Sanders, who has drawn comparisons with Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow. Sanders’ personal trainer, Darrell Colbert Jr., supports that comparison and argues that the quarterbacks are “always calm.”

Shedeur Sanders Personal Trainer Compares QB to Joe Burrow
An NFL journalist, Josina Anderson, recently reported that a quarterbacks coach from a franchise picking in the top 7 referred to Shedeur Sanders as coming off “arrogant” and “brash” in his team interview. He is also making his assessment known to several people.
Discussing this on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Colbert made it clear that Sanders’ attitude was what made him special. He further compared the quarterback with Burrow, arguing that the players were similar in demeanor and production.
“Last year, when I was trying to kind of figure out who fit who Shedeur was, I think [Joe Burrow] was a great fit,” Colbert said. “Just the way Joe Burrow’s always confident, always calm, like, Shedeur is always that.”
“Where I think the comparison really works is the year Joe and [the Bengals] went to the Super Bowl,” Colbert continued. “He was the most-sacked quarterback in the NFL and was still productive. That’s who Shedeur was last year, being sacked over 50-something times and still being productive.”
Burrow was drafted No. 1 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft and has been one of the best quarterbacks in all of football. He is someone that most college football players would love to be compared to, and Sanders would be a great pick for any team if he can replicate Burrow’s production in the NFL.
Burrow’s 2019 Campaign vs. Sanders’ 2024 Season
In 2019, Burrow was simply unstoppable. He had 5,671 passing yards, 65 total touchdowns, only six interceptions, and a completion percentage of 76.3%.
That year, he went on to win the Heisman Trophy before eventually being selected No. 1 overall by the Cincinnati Bengals. Since arriving in the NFL, Burrow has been one of the best pocket passers and all-around players in the entire league.
Meanwhile, this year, Sanders had 4,134 passing yards, 41 total touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a completion percentage of 74%. He won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, an honor Burrow also won in 2019, as the best upperclassman quarterback in the nation. In PFSN’s latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Sanders was selected No. 2 overall by the Cleveland Browns.
