WATCH: Shedeur Sanders Swaps Playbook for Cookbook at Browns’ ‘Rooks to Cooks’ Event

Shedeur Sanders was one of the headline names of this NFL offseason. His surprising drop to the fifth round of the draft dominated the news cycle in May, and now the quarterback finally has a glimpse of how his NFL journey might begin.

While he waits to take the field, Sanders is making the most of his last bit of free time before the season starts. He’s been showing up at events and trying out activities that have nothing to do with football. In a recent livestream, he shared one of those adventures: learning a skill that’s a far cry from what he’ll be doing this fall.

Shedeur Sanders Takes Cooking Lessons at Browns ‘Rooks to Cooks’

Each year, the Cleveland Browns partner with Baldwin Wallace University to host “Rooks to Cooks,” a crash course in cooking that helps rookies pick up basic kitchen skills and build healthier eating habits.

This time around, Sanders joined in and even livestreamed parts of the event, showing off his progress as he prepped a few dishes alongside his new teammates. He was seen making a pasta dish and putting together a charcuterie board.

Events like this help rookies settle into their new city and build a stronger connection with the community. For Sanders, it’s also a chance to earn even more love from a fanbase already excited about the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders.

During “Rooks to Cooks,” players work at their own stations and learn different culinary techniques, giving them a few hours to step away from football. It’s one of the more unique offseason programs in the NFL — and it’s about more than just learning how to cook. It’s about stepping outside their comfort zone.

This is the fourth straight year the Browns have hosted the event. Instructors from Baldwin Wallace guide the players through each step and provide assistance as needed. Shedeur looked like he was having fun in the videos he posted — something fans have gotten used to since he landed in Cleveland in late April.

The Browns open the season against the Cincinnati Bengals in one of the toughest matchups on their schedule. While it’s still unclear where Shedeur will land on the depth chart, there’s growing talk that he could start out as a backup and work his way into the QB1 spot. Until then, at least he’s getting reps in the kitchen.
