Long before Deion Sanders' son Shedeur Sanders was shining as a quarterback, he actually dreamed of being a two-way star like Travis Hunter.

From the outside looking in, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter might seem like they were born for college stardom and an eventual top spot in the NFL Draft. The Colorado Buffaloes duo is projected to be selected early in the 2025 NFL Draft, and both have led the Buffs in their own way.

However, long before Deion Sanders’ quarterback son Shedeur was shining as a quarterback, he actually dreamed of being a two-way star, just like his friend and teammate Hunter.

Top NFL Draft Prospect Shedeur Sanders Was Once a Two-Way Athlete

The Colorado cornerback/wide receiver sat down with his quarterback on the latest episode of “2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders.” The duo talked about their rise and the defining moments that shaped their paths.

As it happens, Shedeur found his way as a QB through a rough play back in middle school. Before that, he wasn’t much different from Hunter – a two-way phenom. “I was a two way player myself. That’s a two way player myself back in the day, you know, I played a little outside line, back in nickel. I played a little DB sometimes, you know, I was like that, but then I feel like, what changed my career is one play…,” Shedeur said.

The 22-year-old QB recalled the hit that set him on his quarterback-only journey. “We were playing at Mills Middle School. I was blitzing from outside linebacker when they got motion in, maybe trips or something,” he shared.

“And I got ear-holed so hard… it was over with. Shiloh said, ‘Bro, don’t ever get hit like that again in your life.’ And Dad looked at me like, ‘What’s going on?’ That was the last time I ever played two ways.” [07:30]

Since then, Shedeur has found his calling, which has helped him lead Colorado. He delivered exceptionally well in the 2024 college football season, boasting 2,591 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Shedeur’s success has helped lead Colorado to a 6-2 record, opening the team’s path to Las Vegas Bowl eligibility while solidifying his position as a projected first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Shedeur Sanders Has Hope Brewing for His Entry Into NFL

Shedeur’s NFL dreams are no secret, but now he’s officially hinted at them. The quarterback’s path to the NFL isn’t just about touchdowns and wins. He’s also wrapping up his academic journey early.

When reminded by Colorado coaches in a recent viral video to register for next semester’s classes, Sanders had a priceless response, claiming, “Register for classes? I’m going to the league.” Later in the clip, he humored, “After last game, y’all not gonna see me (next year).”

Sanders later posted on X (formerly Twitter), clarifying his comment, writing, “I’m graduating early btw.”

As one of the most anticipated prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft, his focus on his upcoming pro career is sharper than ever. Meanwhile, fans and analysts are speculating about potential destinations, with the Las Vegas Raiders, New York Jets, and New York Giants leading the list.

Among the frontrunners, the Raiders stand out as a franchise desperately needing a quarterback. With a talented roster but instability at quarterback, Vegas could be Sanders’ chance to revitalize a struggling team. Moreover, Shedeur’s “coincidental” tweets thanking God after each Raiders loss have promoted Las Vegas as his favorite landing spot.

The Jets also present an intriguing scenario. Aaron Rodgers is nearing the end of his career, and the team needs a succession plan. In such a scenario, Sanders’ dual-threat capabilities make him an ideal fit for New York’s future. According to CBS Sports, he could go as high as the 23rd pick for the Jets.

Finally, the Giants are in the mix, with some mock drafts projecting Shedeur as their top pick. As one of college football’s most exciting prospects, wherever Sanders lands, he’s set to make and early and sizable impact in the league.
