Shedeur Sanders has yet to make his NFL debut as he has been patiently awaiting his opportunity with the Cleveland Browns this year. Many began to speculate that it could potentially come next week, following their bye, after the rookie shared his plans for Week 9.
The quarterback announced that he would not be attending Colorado’s homecoming celebrations this week as he focuses on his practices and preparations. This ended up not being the case as he made a surprise appearance, which resulted in him being criticized by many fans.

Shedeur Sanders Takes Criticism for ‘Lying’ About Colorado Homecoming Appearance
Sanders made a clear statement that he would not be attending Colorado homecoming this weekend, despite the Browns being on their bye week. He served as the starting quarterback for the Buffaloes last year, and his father, Deion Sanders, remains their head coach.
“I’m not coming to CU homecoming. I can’t make it out there. I wish I could, though. I got treatment out here. I gotta get ready. Big ready,” said Sanders.
This led many fans to believe he is preparing to replace Dillon Gabriel as the Browns’ starting quarterback when they return from their bye week. While this could potentially still be the case, he did attend Colorado this weekend to surprise his dad, which resulted in many fans attacking him for being dishonest about his current plans.
“So he LIED to the world about going back to Colorado this weekend,” said one.

The Browns recently traded away Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals before naming Gabriel their starting quarterback. He has been overall unimpressive, currently ranking 35th in PFSN’s Impact Rankings for the position.
This has created speculation that the Browns may make another change, which was further fueled by Sanders’ comments about his plans for the bye week. He seemed to imply that he could be preparing for his upcoming opportunity, though no official announcement has been made about their Week 10 starting quarterback.
Gabriel was selected before Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft, so it’s not surprising that he was given the first look in their offense after moving on from Flacco. He has completed less than 60% of his passes with just five touchdowns and two interceptions, earning just one victory in his four starts so far. The Browns have just a 2-6 record overall, so a change may be necessary to potentially get them back on track.

The Browns have not been fair to Shedeur, so why should he be fair to them. He may never start. Family first and his dad is sick to. Forget Cleveland
