NFL-Bound Shedeur Sanders Clears His Stance on Upcoming Stars Julian Lewis and Bryce Underwood Flipping From Their Original Commitments

    Published on

Shedeur Sanders reveals the advice he gave to Julian Lewis before his flip to Colorado and opines on Bryce Underwood flipping to Michigan.

As college football enters its final stages, so are the recruitment efforts as the signing period nears. This is when the most flips from high school stars take place, and two big names that grabbed the attention last week were Julian Lewis and Bryce Underwood.

A five-star recruit and No. 2 quarterback from the 2025 class, Lewis flipped his commitment from the USC Trojans to the Colorado Buffaloes with hopes of succeeding current quarterback Shedeur Sanders in Boulder. Meanwhile, the No. 1 recruit, Underwood, decommitted from the LSU Tigers to go and play under Sherrone Moore’s Michigan Wolverines.

Shedeur Sanders Opens Up on Recent Flips From Julian Lewis and Bryce Underwood

Sanders knows what’s it like when there are multiple offers on the table and how one decides which school is best. In the recent episode of 2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders, the quarterback shared what he said to Lewis when he visited Boulder before he ultimately decided to make the flip.

“I never wanted to pressure him about what to do because that’s his career — that’s his life. He’s going to have to be okay with it,” Sanders said.

“That’s the same conversation my dad had with me, even when I was deciding to go to Jackson State. At the end of the day, yeah, I want you to come, but if things go left, you’ve got to be okay with the decision you made. So, I gave him the same kind of talk my dad gave me. In the end, he made the decision he wanted to make, and honestly, it’s the decision I wanted him to make too, because I know we wouldn’t set him up for failure.”

Meanwhile, for Underwood, Sanders senses something special is coming from him in the coming years.

“Bryce Underwood flipping his commitment to Michigan? That’s crazy,” Sanders added. “No, for real — Michigan needs a quarterback. Him going there, I think, is different. What he’s doing is different, and I’m excited to see what he’s going to do. He’s proved himself in high school, so now it’s time to prove himself in college.”

Julian Lewis Reveals His Reason for Flip to Deion Sanders’ Program

Even before Lewis eventually decided to flip, On3 and 247 Sports predicted the move, given the recruit’s multiple positive visits to Boulder and positive interactions with the coaches there. He revealed that Coach Prime and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur would be his perfect guides to reach the next level in his career.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to get to work and compete,” Lewis told ESPN. “Colorado wasn’t recruiting me until I reclassed, so it really was perfect timing. This is only the beginning. I trust Coach Prime and [offensive coordinator Pat] Shurmur to help me become the player that I want to be.”

For Colorado, the flip marks a big recruitment win for the program, which will be losing Sanders after this season.
