Saquon Barkley broke multiple franchise and NFL records this season en route to his maiden Super Bowl win. The running back led the franchise to the Vince Lombardi Trophy against the Kansas City Chiefs at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
While Barkley seems to be just getting started, he provided insight into his future and potential retirement.

Saquon Barkley Reveals His Career Timeline
Barkley charted 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns on 345 carries in the regular season last year. He followed that up with 499 yards and five touchdowns on 91 carries in the postseason, setting the NFL record for most yards in an NFL season, regular season and postseason combined, with 2,504 rushing yards.
He was named the Offensive Player of the Year for his outstanding performance. He also earned first-team All-Pro selection for the first time in his career and became a Pro Bowler for the third time.
Barkley’s performance last year sparked the raging wildfire as he flourished like never before. The running back’s stats from his lone season with the Eagles have been way better than any from his time with the New York Giants.
Barkley opened up about his retirement plans on the “Green Light with Chris Long” show. Long asked an interesting question to gain insight into the Eagles RB’s career timeline.
“So, fast forward to however long you want to play. You’re one of the best ever, maybe the best ever. Do you want to be like Aaron Donald? Where AD says, “Hey, I wanna get out of here playing at the highest level.” I want to leave a little early, or do you imagine yourself as one of those guys that wants to do it until the wheels fall off,” he questioned.
Barkley revealed that he wants to retire like his favorite player, Barry Sanders.
“I’ll probably be one of those guys that it would be out of nowhere,” he said. “Like, I’ll probably just wake up one day, whether it’s next year or two years or four years and just be like, ‘Yeah, it’s over.'”

The Eagles quickly extended Barkley’s stay following their Super Bowl victory. They handed him a two-year contract extension worth $41.2 million. It makes him the first running back in league history to have a $20 million-plus annual salary. The deal also has $36 million in guaranteed money and $15 million in incentives and escalators.
