The New Orleans Saints face a big question at quarterback as they prepare for the 2025 NFL season. With Derek Carr no longer on the roster, the team’s QB competition is wide open.
Well-known prospects like Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener are in the mix, but rookie Tyler Shough is quietly making a name for himself at training camp. His arm strength is notable, but it’s his attitude and work ethic that have started to turn heads.
As fans debate who should start Week 1, the Saints locker room is buzzing with optimism about the new faces under center.

Tyler Shough Earning Respect in New Orleans Saints QB Battle After Long, Winding Journey to NFL
Shough’s path to the NFL was anything but straightforward. His college career took him from Oregon to Texas Tech and finally to Louisville, making him one of the league’s oldest rookies at 25.
Along the way, he dealt with critics, depth chart battles, and injuries, but he never lost his determination. Now, Shough is bringing that same resilience to a Saints team eager for fresh talent and leadership.
As the quarterback battle heats up, those inside the locker room may have the clearest view of Shough’s potential. Veteran tight end Foster Moreau offered a candid and refreshing evaluation of the rookie.
“He’s a great guy, hard-working dude,” Moreau said in an interview with SiriusXM. “One of the first guys in the building, which is awesome. He has a great personality, great humor, and he’s his own worst critic. He’s got a lean in his walk, a bit of swagger. He looks at guys like teammates, but also as adversaries.”

Shough stands out as a candidate for the starting job not just for his physical tools but also for his mindset. His ability to see teammates as both allies and competitors shows he is ready for the challenges of the NFL.
That calm confidence, described as a “lean in his walk,” has already earned him respect in the locker room.
Shough’s experience and grit could give him the edge in a tight quarterback competition. He brings a unique perspective to a league that often focuses on youth and potential.

Having already faced setbacks, injuries, and tough decisions, Shough is no stranger to adversity. Even without NFL game experience, his background makes him a valuable presence as the Saints search for a new leader.
The Saints have not yet named a starter, and the competition could last several weeks. Shough is not just waiting for a decision; he is working hard, building relationships, and ensuring his name is part of the conversation.
Whether or not he wins the job, Shough has already made an impression. In a close race, that could be the difference.
I want to hear about how Spencer Rattler is doing not just guy who was plagued with injuries. That just makes me nervous.
I hope these comments about Sough’s are accurate. I do agree about writing the same old stuff. On the other hand I’d rather the same old positive talk than a bunch of negative.
Thanks for being Positive
This article is just stupid. Any and everyone knows Shough is going to be the starter week one. Half of the article is about his college career. Stop writing trash like this that’s about one quote from Moreau which Saints fans have already read. I know your blog has a character count necessary to publish, but find something worth writing about than recycling the same trash you and every other fan blog has written about since minicamp. It’s annoying.
