The New Orleans Saints are having an awful 2025 NFL season and suffered their eighth loss in a 34-10 beatdown against Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
For the Saints, it’s probably time to look at their odds for getting the No. 1 draft pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. New Orleans is 1-8 at this point, 0-4 on the road, and their schedule isn’t going to get any easier.
Will New Orleans Saints Be in Position for Top Draft Pick?
The Saints have put their trust in rookie quarterback Tyler Shough this season, but even he could use another lightning player on offense.
In Sunday’s loss to the Rams, Shough completed his first NFL regular-season touchdown pass.
#Saints rookie QB Tyler Shough’s first career NFL TD pass goes to 6-year veteran TE Juwan Johnson, a former Oregon teammate of his the 2019 Ducks squad.

With this loss and about half of the 2025 NFL season left to go, maybe the team starts looking toward next season already. Shough was 15-of-24 passing on Sunday for 176 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
Backup Taysom Hill also saw some time on the field. Hill was the top rusher for the Saints with four carries for 30 yards. Star back Alvin Kamara had six carries for just 14 yards, emphasizing even more the need for another big player on the team.
According to the PFSN NFL Draft Pick odds, the Saints are at the top of the list with a 27.5% chance of getting the No. 1 overall pick. New Orleans also has a 45.9% chance of getting a top-two pick, a 59.6% chance at a top-three pick, a 78.4% chance at a top-five pick, and a 97.1% chance at a top-10 pick.
The Saints’ defense was unable to stop Stafford, who threw four touchdown passes in the Rams’ victory. Over the next five weeks, the Saints will face the Carolina Panthers, have a bye week, then take on the Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Kellen Moore is in his first season as Saints head coach, and it hasn’t gone well at all. With the Saints in a solid position to earn the No. 1 pick, Moore and the Saints’ front office might be weighing their trade options as the NFL trade deadline looms on Tuesday.
The Saints are turning back into “the Aints” very quickly, leaving their fanbase probably very disappointed in what they have seen this season.
