The New York Giants have had issues at the quarterback position for years, and heading into 2025-26, they have four: Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, Tommy DeVito, and 2025 first-round draft pick out of Ole Miss, Jaxson Dart.
With NFL training camp just around the corner, a Giants insider has claimed who the “clear starter” is right now.

Will Russell Wilson or Jaxson Dart Be the Giants Starter?
Ahead of training camp, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic wrote up a piece highlighting the standouts of this offseason thus far. Carroll wrote about Wilson, 36. He is a 14-year veteran with a Super Bowl under his belt. In fact, he won his Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium.
“Wilson has made the extra effort, taking the other QBs, offensive linemen and running backs to dinner,” Carroll wrote. “He’s organized workouts with skill players in Atlanta, and he orchestrated a private workout with receiver Jalin Hyatt in Los Angeles.
“Quarterback Jameis Winston said Wilson consistently checks in on teammates and sees if they understand concepts and are on the same page,” Carroll wrote. Those are the marks of a veteran quarterback. It’s important to get on the same page as everyone around them and lead by example.
“We haven’t had a quarterback that’s going to command everything, and you know exactly what (they) want,” wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson told Carroll about Wilson.
Second-year wide receiver Malik Nabers has also expressed excitement about playing with Wilson in a quote posted on “Around the NFL”‘s X account.
Malik Nabers’ excellence drew Russell Wilson to Gotham. “I came here because of him,” the Giants QB said. “I really wanted to play with someone who is special like him.”https://t.co/G22muhuQYx pic.twitter.com/h1k1iTeeM0

Even Dart echoed Robinson’s sentiments. “He’s in such command,” Dart told Carroll. “Everybody can look to him and feel super confident that everybody’s going to be in the right spot…”.
Dart gets some attention from Carroll in the article. “While Wilson has emerged as the clear starter this spring, Dart has been a constant subject of fascination for obvious reasons… primarily that he’s expected to be the future of the franchise,” Carroll wrote.
In there, Carroll referenced Wilson as the “clear starter.” This goes against former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum’s advice about going with Dart over Wilson.
That seems like the most obvious move, but it’s important for a key Giants insider to say this. Wilson started 11 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024, his lone season with the team.
He completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions. In 15 games in 2023 with the Denver Broncos, Wilson threw for 26 touchdowns.
While Wilson may be in the “dog days” of his career, having a stable leader as the starting quarterback is something the Giants desperately need.
Since Eli Manning retired, they’ve had a litany of starting quarterbacks under center, including Daniel Jones, Colt McCoy, Mike Glennon, Jake Fromm, Davis Webb, DeVito, Tyrod Taylor, and Drew Lock.
Jones started 69 games for the Giants from 2019-24. He completed 64.1% of his passes for 14,582 yards, 70 touchdowns, and 47 interceptions. Over his final two seasons with the team, Jones started 16 games and had 10 touchdowns.
So, Giants fans probably can expect to see Wilson under center in Week 1.
