Russell Wilson may be gearing up for his first year in New York, but the veteran quarterback has already delivered his favorite highlight of the offseason, and it had nothing to do with football.

Russell Wilson Beams With Pride Over Stepson Future’s Baseball Moment
In a proud dad moment, Wilson shared a photo of his stepson, Future Zahir Wilburn, on Instagram this week. Dressed in white pants, a fitted cap, and signature white Oakleys, the 11-year-old looked locked in on the baseball diamond. The caption said it all: “Future! Young All Star!”
It wasn’t just a show of support; it felt like a glimpse of something bigger. Wilson, who was once a promising baseball player himself before going all-in on the NFL, clearly sees potential in Future. And this isn’t just a one-off. The entire Wilson family, including Ciara and their four children, made a trip to Yankee Stadium on May 18, where Future and his siblings took in batting practice and soaked up the baseball atmosphere.
Wilson, of course, has some baseball history of his own. He was drafted by the Colorado Rockies and batted .229 in the minors before switching to football. In 2018, the New York Yankees even acquired his rights from the Texas Rangers. It’s no surprise the baseball bug may be catching on in the household.
Family Legacy and New Beginnings in New York
This celebration of Future’s athletic journey came just days after Wilson posted a birthday tribute to him, writing:
“You are the Light of the World! Daddy and Mommy love you so much!!!”
Happy birthday Future!!! ❤️ We’re so proud of the young man you are! 11 years old and you somehow teach me something new every day! God has abundance in store for you! Not only are you a great son, a best friend, but you are the best big brother to Sienna, Win and Amora! You are… pic.twitter.com/Vs4QE4vF3e

The Super Bowl-winning QB and Grammy-winning Ciara married in 2016 and have since built a family that’s often in the spotlight for all the right reasons — whether it’s a heartfelt birthday post or Ciara turning heads on the AMAs red carpet in a crystal-dripped gown.
But while Wilson is cheering on his family off the field, he’s also prepping for what may be a critical chapter in his own career. After a forgettable 3-14 season, the New York Giants overhauled their quarterback room, bringing in both Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason. While some predicted a full-blown QB competition, Giants GM Joe Schoen made it clear Wilson is getting first-team reps this spring.
The numbers support that choice. Wilson went 6-5 as a starter for the Steelers in 2024, throwing for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and only five interceptions with a 95.6 passer rating. He also made his 10th career Pro Bowl and helped Pittsburgh reach the playoffs.
Winston, meanwhile, went 2-5 in seven starts for the Browns, tossing 12 interceptions to 13 touchdowns and finishing with a far less efficient 80.6 rating.
The Giants appear ready to hand the reins to Wilson, and if he performs anything like the confident, poised leader he’s shown himself to be throughout his career, New York could see a sharp turnaround. And if not, at least Wilson’s already winning off the field.
