Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus is under pressure. After the Washington Commanders converted a Hail Mary attempt last week, Chicago lost convincingly to the Arizona Cardinals this week.
Unfortunately for the Bears, Caleb Williams also got hurt during the 29-9 loss to the Cardinals. The rookie quarterback took a hit in the final few seconds of the game and came out limping.
Bears Fans Blame Matt Eberflus for Caleb Williams’ Injury
Bears fans on social media are calling out Eberflus and blamed him for Williams’ injury. They believe that since the game was out of Chicago’s reach, the rookie should not have been on the field. Here’s how they reacted:
Eberflus is a joke of a coach

“Fire Matt Eberflus, he’s gonna ruin Caleb Williams,” said one fan.
“If Caleb actually is hurt, that right there is enough to fire the guy. What a moronic decision,” added another fan.

“If the Bears want any shot at breaking this horrific coaching cycle, do something different for once and fire your HC mid-season,” wrote one fan.
“Eberflus needs to be sacked tomorrow,” added another fan.

Eberflus spoke to the media after the game and gave an update on Williams’ injury. “He came in and looks to be fine,” said the Bears HC. “We’ll check him in the morning. You never know how those things go.”
With the loss to the Cardinals, the Bears have dropped to 4-4, and their chances of making the playoffs are looking bleak. The NFC North is by far the best division in the NFL, and to even sniff the playoffs, Chicago needs to win at least five or six of its remaining nine games. This is a very challenging task, as the Bears still have six divisional games left to play this season.
Eberflus Is in Danger of Losing His Job
This is Eberflus’ third season as the Bears head coach. He has failed to deliver so far, and after the loss to the Cardinals, it does not look like Chicago will make the playoffs.
Bears fans had high expectations for this season as they had a solid roster and drafted a generational prospect like Williams. If the inconsistency continues, Eberflus could get fired.
In 42 games as the Bears head coach, Eberflus is 14-28. Since the Bears have a win-now roster, changing the head coach could be the best solution to their problems.
Many head coaching candidates would be interested in coaching the Bears. The list will likely include Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, and it would be better for the franchise if they brought in an offensive-minded head coach to speed up Williams’ development.
