Fantasy Injury Update: Romeo Doubs and MarShawn Lloyd Impacting Week 1 Rankings

What is the latest on the injury situations of Romeo Doubs and MarShawn Lloyd ahead of Week 1? Are either in danger of missing Friday's game?

    Published on

The Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles are the latest NFL teams to publish their first injury reports for the 2024 NFL season, and two names will have stood out for fantasy football managers. While A.J. Brown was listed as being rested, both MarShawn Lloyd and Romeo Doubs appeared on the injury report as having either missed practice or been limited.

Let’s examine what we know about both injuries and whether fantasy managers should be concerned about their Week 1 status.

Latest News and Injury Updates for Romeo Doubs and MarShawn Lloyd

Romeo Doubs, WR, Green Bay Packers

The biggest surprise was Doubs’ presence on the injury report, which came a little out of nowhere. The wide receiver is dealing with a hand injury and started the week as a limited participant.

However, there is reason for optimism, as Doubs did not seem hugely concerned when he spoke to the media after the session. “It was a contusion on my hand and taking some time to heal and it is a day-to-day process. … I was able to function (in practice) the way I’m supposed to.”

Based on that, we would expect to see Doubs playing when the Packers take on the Eagles in Brazil this weekend. Although, that may not be great news for fantasy managers as the Packers’ wide receiver situation is a little bit tricky right now. Doubs, Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks are all competing for playing time.

That group could all eat into the ceiling of the others, and if one were to miss time, it would actually benefit the others from a fantasy perspective.

MarShawn Lloyd, WR, Green Bay Packers

Seeing Lloyd on the Packers’ injury report is not hugely surprising, given his struggles with a hamstring injury in camp. However, it seemed as though Lloyd had been making progress in recent weeks.

The good news is that Matt LaFleur dispelled any concerns that this had been a setback for Lloyd when he spoke to the media. “He had two good days. Just part of the process,” LaFleur told the media.

Lloyd was on the stationary bike rather than participating in the stretching part of practice, suggesting he would be limited at best. It turned out that he did not participate in the practice at all on Tuesday.

It will be interesting to see if Lloyd gets back to practice on Wednesday. If he does, then he will be on the path to being active in Week 1. However, a second straight non-participation will be a major red flag for his potential availability in Brazil.

Even if Lloyd does practice, there is a good chance that he will not have a major role, given the amount of training camp he missed. It would be tough to make a case for fantasy managers to start Lloyd this week.
