The story of people going above and beyond in search of success and fortune, only to be overwhelmed with requests to share that fortune, is one as old as time. Athletes, actors, and musicians will likely all tell you that they have received requests from old acquaintances, distant family members, or even complete strangers for financial help.
One athlete who has had enough of such requests is Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. In an explosive social media post, Jackson has called out those who have asked him for money, calling them “lazy.”
Lamar Jackson Goes Off on ‘Lazy’ People That Have Reached Out to Him for Money
Jackson is one of the most iconic players in the NFL. His ability to light up any game both with his legs and through the air makes him as exciting as he is talented. That has led to the quarterback becoming a top-10 highest-paid quarterback in the NFL (at the time of writing). Jackson has three years remaining on the current $260 million contract he signed in 2023 and has earned over $144 million in his career so far.
While that likely means that Jackson could afford to fulfill all of the financial requests he receives, he appears to have been angered by those who feel entitled to some of his fortune. Posting to his Instagram stories, the quarterback laid into those who have reached out to him for money, calling them “lazy.”
“The things YOU worked for mfs who never worked or did a thing in life want a piece of it, having they hand out and mouth open Lazy asf no type of hustle or [brains].”
Jackson’s frustration seems to be aimed at those who have looked to take advantage of his success, rather than those who have contacted him out of desperation.
Jackson’s Foundation and Charitable Work
Jackson’s rant certainly wasn’t one of a Scrooge-like millionaire clutching his fortune and refusing to share. The quarterback has displayed his generosity many times since entering the league, the most notable of which is the founding of “Forever Dreamers,” Jackson’s foundation.
The foundation, set up in 2018, serves to inspire the younger generation to dream big and to change the narrative around mental health.
“Mental health awareness is a cause near and dear to our hearts. We inspire children to dream with a free spirit and open mind. Often times, mental health awareness can come with a negative stigma. It’s our responsibility to help change the narrative, and [let] all people know that ‘it’s okay not to be okay.'”
Jackson also supports “Blessings in a Backpack,” an organization that donates nutritional food for underprivileged school children to take home on the weekends. Not only has the quarterback donated to the organization directly, but Buffalo Bills fans also donated over $360,000 after Jackson was injured against them in the playoffs in 2021.
